The Unofficial Console vs. PC debate

What I'm trying to say is if they created the game originally on a certain platform they would design a game around it's limitations. Seeing as PC limitations are not nearly as easy to hit as consoles. PC to Console games suffer. When you see console developer make good games on consoles its because their original plans were made to fit it's limitations not condense it. Doing the PC to console, developers have to condense, not workaround the limitations.

I think it boils down to this...

You have more hardware control (and variety) on a PC. Sure, you can mod the consoles (I've got DMS4 SE Pro on my PS2 with a 500GB HD - with all my games, and I've got a M3 real chipped DS), but, the amount of customization is far superior on the PC.

This comes at a price. Directly more expensive and, naturally, a more complicated system to deal with. I can see reasons why developers would want to program on consoles, it's simpler.

Personally, I like the PC interface better. I can always add a controller and have it behave nicely. It might not be as easy to play a FPS with a mouse on a console...

Is that not a Pro for PCs then? That's the whole point of this thread, is it not?

I agreed with you. Even the first word of my response was AGREE :D What I'm saying is Valve is inexperienced with consoles. The fact that they just hate the PS3 and that they can't even release a single update for any of their 360 games shows it. Not even new maps or anything. People still building sentries under the map or in sky boxes on the consoles. Valve doesn't care about consoles.

The only console Valve likes is their own PC developer's console in games. They love to hide so many options in there that should be in menus for users instead of codes that need to be memorized or looked up.

PS3, Nintendo Wii, and even the Sega Dreamcast have a web browser... thus they also have porn.

Doesn't work well when you try to hide it from the parents ;)

Also, @ SecurRom thing. Stop complaining about this crap seriously guys. There is like 1 in a million people who has the problem and its usually due to something else, the only disk that has been broken and doesn't work for me anymore is my XBOX360 Call of Duty 3 which was scratched up by the XBOX360. None of my PC's games have ever NOT WORKED. This includes games that are 10 years old(Or around that, like Hype: The Time Quest, used to love it )

For anyone who doesn't know Hype The Time Quest ;)

PC games have mods, which is cool. For instance oblivion looks a lot better with mods, or you can add more areas to a game, etc. No console games I know of have mods (except the zelda parallel worlds link to the past mod and super monkey rpg (super mario rpg mod) but those require a computer to do and chances are you'll play them in an emulator)

Not true. Phantasy Star and Final Fantasy XI are both MMO's on a Console (XBOX 360), and MAG comes out for the PS3 next year. TBH I'm suprised that Everquest isn't on the PS3, both being a Sony franchise and all. Granted, there are still far more MMOs for PC than Consoles.

Just to nitpick for no reason, PS2 had FFXI first. (I had it myself, along with the PS2 HDD)
