Batdude007 Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 These Opterons look fantastic, I'd love to throw one in my rig and crank that bad boy up. However I haven't done any overclocking Since my A-XP 2400+, so I'm hesitant to get one. So here was my plan, any thoughts and suggestions would be nice. lol New Rig: Opteron 180 S939 (OEM) 2x1Gb OCZ Plat 3200 DFI LanParty UT RDX200 Cross-Fire X1800XT (not really something you need to know, but worth mentioning in my mind. ) I was gonna give it a ThermalTake BigWater SE and a PC A/C unit to keep the heat down, not to mention the as5 under the block. lol Now I'd like to OC that 180, it has a nice multiplier. However I'm worried about getting that board, and even OC'n a Opty in general. Any advice or or a heads up for me?
4Qman Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Grimpy get testing man, i just ordered the exact same stepping. I serched all the UK online stores and only found one by chance when i called. before Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I have received a 146 CABYE 0540APMW and managed to test it a little today. I was not able to load windows but it was enough to test with UBCD under DOS. Prime95 has ran during 2h18mins @3GHz with 1.55V. It's not really surprising since the cpu was able to take 3.1GHz @ 1.65V without being rock stable but enough to bench Hot CPU Tester. http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=53777 3.1GHz @ 1.65V 3.0GHz @ 1.55V Prime95 under DOS Memtest test 8 with a PQI TCCD @300MHz to show the CPU frequency
Fletcherea Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I just recieved the opty in my sig from monarch(evil) but it was the only place with them in stock anywhere on the planet at the time, and i must say it blows away my 3500+ venice, in which i had to put 1.65 volts into it to hit its max at 2600 even, on stock volts this baby hits that and stays stable, right now im thinking bout upping the volts(current is in sig) but at 2700 , and super cool air cooling temps, im thinking why ruin a good thing. That venice was a 400 over clock with some wicked high volts, and this thing im running now a sweet 900, im soo tempted to get the 1k outta it though, but with air cooling im thinking like i say, i should just be happy =) ill run my benchies and prime maybe this weekend again, and post em up here. easygoer Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Just got my Opty 175 today. I'll take a pic as soon as my batteries charge. The number on it is CCBWE 0541RPMW. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
My Ugly PC Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Opteron 180 S939 (OEM)2x1Gb OCZ Plat 3200 DFI LanParty UT RDX200 Cross-Fire X1800XT (not really something you need to know, but worth mentioning in my mind. ) I was gonna give it a ThermalTake BigWater SE and a PC A/C unit to keep the heat down, not to mention the as5 under the block. lol OCZ 2x1gb PC3200 Plats don't clock good for the most part. The Big Water SE kit is *NOT* better than a good HSF. I promise you will only get more maintenance and install headaches. You should start a thread in the "Recommendations and Hot Deals" section, for people's advice on something better. Then if you want you can edit your post here with a link to the new thread.... Budwise Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Just got my Opty 175 today. I'll take a pic as soon as my batteries charge. The number on it is CCBWE 0541RPMW. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Sorry to say, but thats a bad thing... I had a 0541 and it was a voltage pig. I just got a CCBWE 0543TPMW running yesterday. So far im at 2700 @ 1.48Vcore and have been priming for the past 6 hours with no issues.
