1. CABNE 05xx, xx<40

2. CABYE 0540

3, CABNE 0540/CABYE 05xx, xx != 40

4. CABGE

Higher numbers on this list are more likely to reach 3GHz, lower ones less likely.

1. So is number 1 the best or 3?

2. Any word on how the CAB2N perform.

3. I am using an early BIOS will I need to flash it?

4. I am looking to get as close to 3ghz on air as possible, but as long as I get over 2700Mhz I will be happy, which of the below would be best suited. I realise its not an exact sciene;

CAB2E 0540FPMW

CABYE 0536

CABGE 0536 VPAW

Sorry, will edit this so it's more clear. Best is #1, worst is #4. Still not enough results to be sure about CAB2E's, but there have been some unimpressive ones, perhaps making the CABYE 0536 a safer bet. It should exceed 2.7GHz with some voltage. If you can wait, I should have better info. In any case, get the highest model number (144, 146, etc.) that you can afford. Don't get the CABGE.

Regarding BIOS, I can verify that 510-x, 623-x, and 704-2BT all work. Don't know about anything else. Many like 704-2BT best.

cabye 0540 & cabne 0528 / 0530 are the best stepping out there as far as im concerned

cab2e is hit and miss like the cabge, my cabge 0536 clocked more than my cab2e did!

my order would be:

CABYE 0540 / CABNE 0528 / CABNE 0530

CABYE 0536

CABNE 0540 / CAB2E 0540 / CABGE

if you are not stable at 2700, why are you trying to get higher????

surely the smart thing to do would be to try to get it properly stable at 2700 first LOL

Because I know it can go higher and it's not going to be left at 2700. LOL

It would be extremely helpful if people would put down where and when they purchased their CPU's along with the model and stepping.

That way we can keep track of of the steppings currently being shipped by vendors for the various models.

One difference between the Opteron chips and the "normal" AMD64 chips is the lack of the 64KB L1, Level 1 instruction cache (it uses only the 64KB L1 data cache). Is this signifigant and, if so, what would it effect?

nope, youll find it is on the opterons along with a 1mb l2 cache instead of the "normal" amd64 chips with 512kb

and i compared my 144 at stock against a 3200 venice (e6) at stock and the 144 was slightly faster
