  5. Hi guys, I have been extremely busy recently and haven’t used my computer for ages. Just prior to this busy stretch I purchased a 24" Dell 2407 monitor. Having come back to gaming I decided I had earn't myself a little treat and decided to purchase an ASUS 7950GX2 to do my games justice. It should arrive on Monday. Over the weekend I have some time to prep my computer for this new addition. I will be installing a new PSU (probably the OCZ 700w recommended here). My question relating to BIOS's is: Some time ago I flash my bios using Tmods very helpful disc, however I can’t remember what the name of the BIOS was that I used. All I know is that when I get the POST screen, the following BIOS info appears: 07/06/2005-NF-CK804-6A61FD49C-00. This means nothing to me other than its just over a year old. Will this BIOS version work with the GX2 of will I need to flash to a newer BIOS version? I know the say if it ain't broke, but I want to get things ready for my new hardware?
  6. After the overwhelming response to my original post, I decided to go ahead and install my new PSU and 7950GX2. I am happy to report that it seems to be working fine with my current BIOS version! I got a stock 7950 3dmark06 score of 8049 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=554420
  7. Is anyone here using the DFI LP SLI DR with the original 7950gx2 or 7900gx2 that was destined for OEM builders only and not for retail sale? It's the long board version which is 31cm long. It's physical size apart did you encounter any problems, which PCI-e slot did you use and what size PSU? Thanks in advance.

Which RAM for LanParty SLI DR?

Thanks for the replies guys. I know the redline is good stuff, but it comes at a price. With the changes in hardware I dont want to invest too much money on this. Having had a look around I think I might go for G.Skill PC4000.
  9. In the next few hours I am going to buy 2gb of RAM for my LanParty SLI DR. I have overclocked my X2 4400 to around 2.7Ghz. The first decision I need to make is do I go for low latency PC3200 or higher frequency PC4000? I am considering the following brands in both PC3200 & PC4000 forms: G.Skill Crucial Ballistix or OCZ? Does anyone have any suggestions based on experience? I did have 2gb of Corsair but I wouldn’t play ball with my motherboard, so I am going to avoid it.
  10. I have spent some time trying to lower my computers temps, at their worst I was getting an idle and load PWMIC and chipset temp of around the 45 and 50c respectively. I know this is acceptable for alot of people but it’s too hot for me. After a bit of work, lowering the LDT volts back to stock and changing my HSF I managed to lower them to around 37cpu, 44pwmic and 45 Chipset idle. However after gaming for a while (1hour +) they were creeping up again to around 47c mark. To solve this I modded the side panel of my Cooler Master Stacker case to allow a 120mm fan to blow directly across the PWMIC area and ram. In addition to this I reversed the HDD cade housing an internal 120mm so I blew directly across the chipset/pwmic arse. Here are some pics of what I have done: After doing this I replaced the side grill, I then ran 3dmark 06 (I Know its not the most intensive bench mark but it gives an indication of the effect of the new 120mm side fan)) Here are the results: With Side Fan CPU PWMIC Chipset Idle 30 29 37 Test 1 38 34 43 Test 2 38 36 43 Test 3 39 39 44 Test 4 39 40 44 Test 5 38 38 44 Test 6 38 38 45 Without Side Fan CPU PWMIC Chipset Idle 31 33 40 Test 1 38 37 42 Test 2 39 40 43 Test 3 40 42 44 Test 4 42 43 43 Test 5 38 41 43 Test 6 38 41 44 These were done late at night so I have included a pic of my temps as I type this: It seems to have worked for me so I thought I would share it with you as I have seen an ever increasing number of posts about these temps.
  11. Good point, but I have been working on that. I have added a 3rd 120mm intake and mounted the hdd drives (2xWD Raptors) in the bottom cage. To remove the warm air I have use a single 80mm fan, fixed to the bottom of the case below the graphics card. I have also removed the backing plate at the rear of the case in between the GTX and XFi. The temps seem nice and low, so I have upped the CPU volts to 1.325x110%. Still using the 5:4 mem divider I have set the HTT255x11-2808Mhz. The mem timings are 2-3-3-5. Prime stable for 5hours so far. Plus I have an 80mm extraction fan mounted on the top of the case, removing the warm air collected in the dead spot around the PSU. Just to clarify all three front 120mm are intake fans!!!!! AND I have replaced the side grill, its only open to allow me to take the pic

This is what I have done, sorry for the double post I should have put this here in the first place: I have spent some time trying to lower my computers temps, at their worst I was getting an idle and load PWMIC and chipset temp of around the 45 and 50c respectively. NF4 Expert Chipset Temps

Too hot for my liking, what are your other temps i.e. PWMIC and CPU?
  14. When you change the fsb and multi in the BIOS I assume this effects both cores or can you set them independently?

    X2 4400, need help!

What volts did you have to use and you can see mine are not too high, from here I have three options: 1. Keep this nice O/C (like thats gonna happen) 2. Tighten the RAM timings to 2.5-4-6-3 (thats how it appears in the BIOS 2.5-4-3-6 is how most will see it) or 3. Keep these timings and up the fsb to 275 then if it will go 280!

    X2 4400, need help!

OK I am running the following settings but seem to have hit a barrier; 10*260= 2.6Ghz stock volts 3xHT Mem 2.5-3-3-5 @ 2.8volts. I have tired increasing the vcore in the BIOS, but when I set it to anything between 1.4-1.5 it shows as being 1.36v both in the BIOS and using smartguardian. Any ideas or suggestions?
  18. As the title suggests I am about to upgrade from an A64 3200 to a Dual Core X2 4400, but before doing so I have two questions. I am using an old BIOS (510) I think do I need to flash to the latest official 623.3 in order to use the X2. Also do I need to re-install XP, I really can't be arsed.
  19. Not an option I have already been bought a 4400:)

    1. CABNE 05xx, xx<40 2. CABYE 0540 3, CABNE 0540/CABYE 05xx, xx != 40 4. CABGE Higher numbers on this list are more likely to reach 3GHz, lower ones less likely. 1. So is number 1 the best or 3? 2. Any word on how the CAB2N perform. 3. I am using an early BIOS will I need to flash it? 4. I am looking to get as close to 3ghz on air as possible, but as long as I get over 2700Mhz I will be happy, which of the below would be best suited. I realise its not an exact sciene; CAB2E 0540FPMW CABYE 0536 CABGE 0536 VPAW

    SLI-DR and PCI-E slot 2

I am running my GT in slot two for the same reason. As already mentioned you need to check your display properties. If it says 2x then yes move all the jumpers, this will run the card 8x. By doing the above I had slight performance gain, but nothing amazing, it equated to about 100 points in 3dmark 05.
  24. I am running two 120mm fans, a 92mm, my HSF and chipset fan from the mobo:/
