Re-using Packing Materials For Ebay Shipping

There was a small discussion among people the other day on another board about sellers who re-use boxes, peanuts, bubblewrap, etc... when they send stuff. Most were all for it and a few didn't like it because they felt that since they paid for the shipping and handling, they should at least get the new envelope bubble mailer, etc... or get cheaper shipping since the seller didn't have to go buy it.

The big debate was on the manilla bubble mailers because aparently, they are cheap enough for the seller to go get a new one to ship something in. Aparently, these debaters have never sold something on ebay and seen what kind of shipping limitations they have put on the charges? A seller almost has to re-use mailers or find another way to make up that lost cash.

Personally, I will and continue to re-use materials because it saves time and why the h3ll should I have to make trips to the store every time I have to send off a package? Why should it matter as long as the item gets to it's destination in one piece? I save the peanuts, mailers, styrofoam, USPS Flat Rate Boxes as well as other misc sized boxes that I feel I may need in the future. Lucky for me, I have a recycling center right up the road, so any extra boxes or odd sizes I may need are close by, but others may not have that option.

Wow, I can't believe anyone would complain about not getting a new box/envelope with an Ebay purchase. I would personally send them some cheese to go with their wine! I will always re-use any and everything I can when it comes to packing. However, with the USPS flat rate boxes being free now, I don't re-use as many boxes as I used too. But as far as peanuts and bubble wrap, I definately will continue to re-use all of it!

I'm very lucky, I have curbside recycling :)

I wish I was near a recycling plant.

I honestly have zero issues with an ebay seller reusing a box of something he received a month ago, all I care about is what I payed for, if it's in full working order, who gives a damn about the box? :P

+1

if it's packaged securely, i don't care if it comes packed in hefty bag full of stale marshmallows, as long as what I purchased arrives in the condition shown in pictures

I used old shredded paper trash for the packing and whatever old boxes I once recieved.

The buyer can shove it where the sun dont shine if they have a problem, I'm not going to BUY a new box and waste needless resources/money.

You know what I say screw them whiners....I am with Pauls statement here....I reuse all I can to help save waste....they are NOT paying you to box it and wrap it...they are paying you to SHIP it...that means grabing the box /package you wrapped and walking/driving your happy butt down to the mailers and giving it to the person behind the counter so it reaches the buyer....

the nerve of some people...complain if you hung them with an old/new rope...geese

I always reuse packing materials.

As do I.

Ask anyone who has bought/received for free something from me, sometimes I pack the item in something that Isn't even supposed to be for shipping or I reuse scraps of packing material to engineer some form of containment device.

That doesn't mean I slack on shipping quality, it just means that I use whatever I can to ship with.

If they are re-using packaging from another seller, then obviously they didn't get it for free.

TBH I think that it sounds gross, because if you are re-using old newspapers or peanuts...just imagine all the bacteria on them after 3 or 4 times re-used.
