  1. I have read about many users who can't seem to get MSI Afterburner to unlock voltages and extreme overclocking. There is a new Beta version of 2.1 that seems to be working quite well when it comes to being "unlocked!" However there are a few tricks to get this to work properly, especially if you are using an AMD/ATI card. But, so far I have this 2.1 beta 7 version working perfectly with my MSI 6970's and figured I would share I recommend uninstalling your current AfterBurner before proceeding 1st - Dowload the latest MSI AfterBurner link located in Update above and install. 2nd - Locate the folder where MSI Afterburner installed to, open it, and locate the CFG file named MSIAfterburner. When you 1st dbl click this file it will ask you what program you want to use to open it, choose "Notepad" and click "ok" Once you have the MSIAfterburner CFG file open in notepad you need to change a couple of settings near the bottom: UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1 (to keep PowerPlay active (may not work on old ASICs), 2 to traditionally disable PowerPlay or to 0 to temporary disable unofficial overclocking path)<--Do not type this, just for reference I have mine set to = 1 After you have made these changes, DO NOT forget to click "file" and "save" before exiting notepad, or your changes will not take into effect! Nvidia Users: Working just fine on my GTX 680, you are finished AMD/ATI Users: There are still additional step you need to take or your PC will lockup if you try to change any clocks or voltages in AfterBurner! Once you have saved your changes in the CFG file, close notepad, click "start" and type "regedit" (with no quotes) in the search field near the bottom. A new window will open (pictured below), this is your Registry Editor. Here is the path you need to follow - click on each folder, in order until you get to {4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} From there follow the instructions I have made on the picture! After you have finished, RESTART your PC and everything should work! If you do not restart your PC after making these changes, your PC WILL freeze up if you try to change your clocks or voltages in Afterburner!
  2. The new Intel sockets are out (1155), or are going to be out later this year(2011), and I noticed a few people posting their scores over on the 1156/1366 thread. Since no one has started this yet, I figured the OCC members who have made the switch to SandyBridge needed a OC thread to call their own Just like in the 1156/1366 thread and HWBOT, you need 2 cpuz included in your screen shot, with the second one showing your memory tab. You also need to specify what cooling you are using, so that others can compare not only thier cpu's but cooling solutions as well! You don't have to show your temps, but it is recommended! Make sure you use a reliable image hosting website, so that your screen shots stay up I will be linking each post in the scoring thread, and will try to keep this as updated as possible. I Joined the SSD crowd

Here's a Kingston HyperX 240GB for $160 Still not worth it to me, only way I'd get one is through a trade. I'd rather buy a 1tb SSHD. Stay where you are, the only thing that happens when you go SSD.....you can't go back
  4. When it comes to unlocking AMD cpu's that have had cores disabled, it is really just pot luck! Some unlock and are stable, some do not. If I was in your situation, I would probably just go ahead and buy an AMD X4 955, you can pick one up used for under $80, which isn't much more than a x2 555 would prob go for. That way you have a guaranteed 4 cores, plus much more OC potential...if you are into OCing that is!

    $8,000 Ebay Computer

This entire listing is a LMFAO party! I was checking his feedback and although he hasn't sold a custom PC since 09, look at the prices he was getting people to pay then! I have to admit, I am slightly jealous...what was I thinking selling custom PC's on eBay for reasonable prices, where I made a little money and the buyer got a good deal at the same time...

Have you upgraded just your cpu before?

On the AMD AM3 platform, I went: x2 7750 x4 925 x4 955 x4 965 Going from the 955 to the 965 was completely pointless, but I was trying to squeak some extra OC headroom out of the 965 and got a great deal on it, and sold the 955 for more than I paid for the 965! I also agree with Capi on the 1st gen i7 and 2nd gen i7 being a sidegrade. I went from an OCing beast i7 930 that would hit 4.6GHz to a OCing beast 2600K that has hit 5.5GHz. But, even at stock, IMO I can feel a difference between the 2 chips!

    GUIDE for Unlocking MSI AfterBurner

I have been gone for a little while, haven't seen the posts about the pic being messed up...sorry. I looked for the original pic I made for this guide, but I can't seem to find it. In the next week I will recheck to see if this guide still works for unlocking Afterburner, then make a new, clear diagram showing the steps needed to be done to unlock Afterburner. But, like Savan said...If you have a question about something other than unlocking MSI Afterburner, either search or start a new thread!

  10. You can "Secure Erase" your SSD's through Windows 7 Prior to booting into the OS! I wipe my SSD's and reinstall Windows about 3-4 times a year just as preventative maintainence since I have them in RAID 0 and no trim support! I know at first I was just formatting them like normal when reinstalling windows, but my drives started to slow down. When I was looking for reasons why, I found out that only formatting them WILL cause SSD's to slow down over time! They have to be wiped by methods other than the conventional format Windows command. Here is the way I do it using the Secure Erase command with Windows Here is a guide to Secure Erase: Hold Shift + F10 during BOOT --> this will take you to a Command Prompt when you get here you will see the prompt > type diskpart - which will change your prompt to diskpart> then type - list disk - this will list your drives, you need to find your SSD and remember the number! next at the prompt you will type - clean all diskpart>clean all - which prompts you to select a disk ( hope you rem which is your SSD ) select your SSD and then hit enter! This will take some time, but it is working, so just let the Secure Erase do its thing until it is finished! Once you have Secure Erased your SSD, you can then reinstall Windows, and it will be faster again! Here is the Command Line: >diskpart diskpart>list disk "your drives are then listed" diskpart>clean all "select your SSD, and let it finish the Secure Erase" Hope this helps Warning - All Data on the drive will be lost with this process! Make sure you have saved everything you want PRIOR to using Secure Erase!
  11. Well SSD space on my 120GB Force GT was starting to get low, so instead of reinstalling games or large programs onto my HDD, I did what any SSD speed addict would do and grabbed another 120GB Force GT I figured I would get a performance boost, to go along with doubling the space, which was of course the main reason for adding the 2nd SSD! But, I really didn't think I would see this kind of jump in CrystalDiskMark. I know, I know...it's just a benchmark, but I'm a benchmark junkie Single 120GB Corsair Force GT with 13GB of space remaining and Windows installed: Single 120GB Corsair Force GT - Completely Empty: (2) 120GB Corsair Force GT SSDs in RAID 0 with everything copied from my original using Acronis:

    MSI Afterburner

RivaTuner is just such a great program, why not start from like you sd, Freeware But, RivaTuner is not for most users as it is quite robust and complicated! EVGA and MSi just made a very simplified version that the average user can easily manage OP - Did you use the MSi Guide I wrote? I haven't had any issues with Afterburner with any of the cards I have used my guide to overclock. But, I also haven't used CCC to OC in a very long time, so not sure if there is some conflict between the 2 programs.

[Poll Closed] What Do You Believe?

After voting a couple of days ago, I didn't keep up with this thread after, until today when I went back and read all 13 pages. I must say that I am amazed that the discussion stayed civil I like to wager and 2 days ago, I wouldn't have bet a dollar that this would have been the case. I just really wanted to say how impressed with the OCC community this thread has made me Not going to remember every post exactly but I did want to make some comments: I was raised Lutheran my entire life. I made the choice to become Agnostic later in high school based on what I believe. But, whether you are Catholic, Christian (which ever denomination), or some other religion, practicing or not, the main thing I believe is that the bricks and mortar that it took to build the church you may or may not belong to, do not matter. But, rather the feeling and beliefs you have established in your heart are what truly matters. Whether those beliefs include a higher power or not, is less important than the fact that they are yours! I hope that everyone can find happiness or purpose with their lives, without the need of a higher power. Someone said we are the higher power, I like that! Be happy or find a great purpose because you want to, not because you think God wants you to! Many have asked "why are we here?" I think this question may be the easiest to answer and although the answer may sound completely scientific and utterly hilarious, here it is...Our parents had sex, a sperm inseminated an egg and formed an embryo...bam we are here Joking aside, this question may actually be asking "what is our purpose here?" I think it is up to each individual to answer that for themselves. Even if you are religious, God gave free will for you to answer this question on your own. Which also touches on the comment made that God helped man make these great inventions and improve technology the way we have. I completely disagree with that opinion, but I'm not trying to offend anyone. I just think that even a truly religious person understands that with free will, God gave them the power to make their own way in life, not direct it @ Wevs - You were talking about addiction, stating that you have known people who only got clean "by accepting that there is a higher authority in their lives," because all else failed. Although I think it is great to get clean in any way possible, if an addict doesn't get clean because of themselves and wanting a better life for themselves, without the need of a "higher authority" in their lives, then in my opinion, the chance of a relapse is probably greater. Addiction is a tricky thing, and one of the few times where selfishness is actually an ally. You have to get clean for you and you alone IMHO

    Can't find the bottleneck!

Which is why I never said that by today's standards they are up to snuff. But, MJ said "were" meaning that they were not a good CPU when they came out, which is just not true. But, Nyt, weren't you still crapping yourself when P4s came out

    i7 2600K

Why not just set your 2600K to 4.6GHz when you get home, run some benchmarks, and compare? Really, it would be the only way to find the true difference, unless you found a site with your exact system specs that ran the CPU at both speeds. Plus by doing it this way, you still have a job
