Crucial Ballistix 2x1GB PC4000 kit gone bad (merged)

Heat may have killed yours but it is not the general cause. My ram never got above 30C and had active cooling everytime.

i don't beleive that BS about a bad batch, they are all bad IMO.

Thats just not true lol. There is a unusually high amount of failures but thats just a tiny amount compared to how many have been sold and work fine. In my readings it seems to be restricted to mobo's that have more control over memory settings such as the ABit's/DFI's and Asus's. I bet its about 5% that have failed in total sales.

Crucial are awesome for refunding when you gotem from crappy overclockers. They suck and charge to much and blantantly dont know S**T!!!

I know these sticks have had faults but Crucial are how company's should be. Well done to them is what i say and they won me as a loyal customer.

I'm not giving up on them (Crucial). I really have not decided to send these back yet. They are totally stable (at least for the past 4 days) at 2.9v, and when my old set needed more v, they never did stabilize, so perhaps this set is broken in now?

We'll see. I think newegg expires RMA's after 14 days, so I have a few days to play around.

Having Ballistix my self I have been following this issue closely. Based upon what others have reported anything above 2.8v seems to be in the danger zone. If your memory won't stabilize at 2.8v it may be too late. Hopefully it isn’t, but even Crucial specs dictate stable memory at 2.8v.

That's the thing. I'm stable at 275fsb w/2.9vdimm for 4 days now. I was stable at 300fsb w/2.7vdimm for a week. I used to be stable at 275fsb w2.6vdimm but now I can't boot at 2.6vdimm.

This new set is changing, just as my old set did, but this set is rock stable so far at 275fsb w/2.9vdimm.

I'm sure I am just wanting this ram to work out, but I'm just as sure that this pair will follow the same pattern as my old ram, but so far, other than having to up vdimm, this ram is still kicking booty.

I just tried a little while ago, and I can still do 300fsb and do SuperPi and dual Prime, but I only let it run for a few minutes.

So far, the only diff bewteen this replacement set and my original set is the fact that though both eventually required more vdimm, this newer set stabilizes with more vdimm but the old set did not.

We'll see.....

It's been four months since I've originally assembled my PC in August and what a nightmare those four months have been.. For the first two weeks the system was relatively stable, no BSODs, no shutdowns, everything you expect to get after shelling out $300+ for high performance memory.. After the first two weeks one of the sticks turned up bad during a memtest check, so it got returned for an rma to Newegg.. The second stick ran ok for another two weeks, but then the BSOD's returned.. After tolerating random black screen power cycling for another two months (no memtest errors found), and replacing a PSU to potentially eliminate the possibility of a bad power supply, I called up crucial to RMA both sticks.. The replacement set was received a week ago, one stick already had errors straight out of the box, the other passed memtest just fine.. Crucial would only RMA one stick of a matched pair. The other stick, which was error free, has been running stable at 3-3-3-8 250mhz 2.8v. Throughout this experience I've never taken the memory above 250mhz, BSOD's would occur even at 200mhz, settings were usually on auto, and the X2 was never stable even at its rated speed of 2200mhz.

Incidentally, I haven't had a single BSOD, or black screen reboot since the replacement memory arrived last week. Another odd observation is that system/cpu temp reading appear to have dropped 5-7 degrees celcius.. No other changes were made other than replacing the memory... Frankly, I'm baffled, but starting to believe that this belief of memory degradation from bad batches of Ballistix that overheat is probably true..

It's been approximately 7 weeks since the RMA'd memory was installed and running at 2.6v @ 250mhz.. In the past week the reboots have returned; the system has locked up 3 times, just freezing up.. In the past 2 hours, 2 black screen reboots and 1 lockup.. Just upped the voltage to 2.7v but it looks like the stability of this memory is degrading just like previous sets..

It's been two weeks approximately since my last post.. Settings have remained unchanged, the RAM is now unstable at 2.7v and has rebooted 3 times today alone.. I sure hope Crucial is going to do the right thing and refund money if they discontinue the ballistix line because like a lot of people I've lost a lot of time and energy dealing with this defective product over the past 6 months..

Is this true they been discontinued?

Well my memory as come to a end as well can not even run bf2 without error “memory.dll sanity check block size 2130575158 (2031.87 MB) doesn't seem sane” coming up all the time, so I ran memtest only to find out in the first hour I had 46 errors and the system froze, I tried to install bf2 again installed ok went to play it guess what BSOD and now I get random reboots and sometimes it dose not reboot back into windows just a black screen with a cursor flashing.

Brought the memory in August same as Lucky1 did (Looks like mine came from the same batch as Lucky1 my numbers on my modules are the same BL12864Z503.16TD PN:56278) and they ran great for 2-3 months after that it as all been down hill relaxing the timing and upper the voltage just to get the same performance I was getting from the start so I’m going to RMA these and see crucial say.

I think I'm going RMA my ballistix...

Pc crash after few minutes...

There are no errors on memtest but I'm going to try on monday morning some different ddr400 to be sure that my ballistix are causing these crashes.

I'm so so so sad.

I am also worry but my case has been different. First i got the ram, i can do 250mhz 3-4-4-8 at 2.6v and passed memtest for 7hrs. But it failed during gaming or 3d benching with a weird sound came out from my speaker.

I cant oc the rams at all and all i do is running with divider to keep the ram at no more than 210mhz.

But 2 weeks ago i felt so itchy and i would like to try oc this ram for a last time before sending it to RMA. But it oc superbly, and now i'm running at 265mhz 3-4-4-8 .. hmm..
