jdhatt Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 i know most are probably going to say it comes down to personal preference, but im just curious as to what others there have, and your experiences for with different monitor sizes and gaming. also keep in mind that i do plan on using this monitor for movies and things like that as well so what would be the ideal size to accomplish both needs (mostly gaming). movies would more often than not be watched from about 5-10 feet away (computer desk is at the foot of the bed and to the left ). Even though it is for movies, i would like it to be the best for gaming, movies would just be that added bonus, so what do you guys think? Any recommended brands or models? Griever2003 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 for the movie aspect i dont feel that anything beats a 46" Samsung LEDTV... it is a good size, without being obnoxiously huge. and i have done quite a bit of gaming on mine.. it is silly... but you definitely will see it if your fps aren't up to speed. t0asty Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I would think a 46" might be a little overkill for just the occasional 5' away to watch a movie. I'd say anywhere in the 30" range would be just fine, depending on your budget. But that's just me.
Fight Game Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I'd say 27-28" since it's primarily games. I think 30" or more would be way too much for gaming unless you're sitting farther away.
medbor Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 32" fullHD LED or LCD tv, for the movies, but for the gaming a 23-26" FullHD will be quite enough. What GPU do you have?
jk336699 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 20 is too small and 32 is too big... somewhat between = 24"
Puck Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I think my 26" 1920x1200 is absolutely perfect for gaming and normal general use. You don't want to go too big for gaming because its harder to see the whole screen at once and I'm paranoid that it slightly lowers reaction times. I have gamed on my 55" 1080p and although it looks amazing, I won't play an FPS on it because I can tell the difference it makes. Fallout and MMOs are fine, and Crysis looks beautiful, but no multiplayer shooters on a big screen for me.
Fixedgeariain Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I own dual 24 inch monitors and love em (only use a single screen for gaming)
IVIYTH0S Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 24" is a great size, I only'd want to upgrade to a 30" (the max I'd ever go) for the 2560x1600 resolution also strive for a 1920x1200 monitor if 24"-28"
jdhatt Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 32" fullHD LED or LCD tv, for the movies, but for the gaming a 23-26" FullHD will be quite enough. What GPU do you have? thanks so much for the responses guys! and to answer your question, im building a new rig and leaving my old one at home for the family to use, so for my new one i plan on rocking either a GTX 570 or i may wait for kepler, but if im not patient enough ill just SLI the GTX 570 in a year or so. i may start a new thread on this, but just incase anyone can throw me a quick response....do you guys think a GTX 570 SLI setup will match up to kepler? i plan on building my rig in the summer so is it worth the wait? also im getting this monitor for games like Starcraft II, BFBC2 (and BF3 in the future), L4D2, and possibly Civ 5. My main concern is FPS, i'm considering a 27inch samsung, does that seem too big for a FPS? i dont wanna suck lol, i do fairly well on my current 21.5" but i definitely want an upgrade from that haha
IVIYTH0S Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 27" isn't too big, it will just take some getting use to at first. i remember playing oblivion on my 22" the first time and getting motion sickness
