Nuclear Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 I was reading and searching the web when I came upon this: 5900 to 5950U It seems that you can do a simple bios flash to turn your Leadtek or Gainward 5900 to an 5950U edition, and actually it should work for any company. It does a software vmod by supplying more voltage to the GPU also. A couple of guys over at XS have done this and had no problems and awesome results. Some guys are even gaining as much as 100MHz on their clocks and cooler temps when using the 43.04 drivers. Just thought you guys would like to know

Nuclear Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 Okay, I know what I'm getting for my next vid card. Really, I think I'm gonna have to get one just to try this out. You can get a brand new GainWard for $212 from NewEgg. You could have blazing speeds and a ultra fast card for under $220.
Ghost2520 Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 Would that beat the 9800XT? I hope so... Nvidia could use something good.
Nuclear Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 The 5950U was released to compete with the 9800XT, but unfortunately it doesn't even compare in benchmarks. The 5950U is great card, but it's no XT beater. This is still a great thing though, you can have a $500 video card for ~$200, you can't beat that. FanATIc205 Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 a 9800pro still beats the pants off of the 5950 its not about frame rates any more its about image quilaty
Eva_Unit_0 Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 Yeah, I'm still a hardcore ATI person. Xtreme21 should be happy to see this, though!

Iggy Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 If this is shown to be true, the fx 5900 line is gonna explode like the Radeon 9500's did when the softmod was discovered.
AYoKoNA Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 (edited) Well i read the posts from nuclear's links... Ppl said it worked... Unfortunately the link is dead! Searching for the bios elsewhere..... Edit: Couldn't i just use the bios from Gainward's website???? Edit again: Okay Gainward wants you to use "their" expertool to d/l the bios which means it will d/l my bios for my vid card... Anyone know where i can get my hands on this bios??? Ziggy54354 Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 the thing about the 9500 -> 9700 whats it theoretically made it twice as good ( about 25% boost in reality ) this just gives it a slight clock boost right?
