    Got leopard installed!

    Was going to post in the other leopard thread... but for some reason it got closed? Well I got leopard up and running and have been messing around with it most of the day. Man it is totally worth 129 bucks. The new "stacks" feature is by far the most used by me, every app I have installed is just two clicks away. The new dock is also sexy as hell ( I have it positioned on the left side so its got a "smoke" style dock rather than the shiny shelf lookin thing. Have yet to have a single program crash or freeze. (Though that rarely happened in tiger) The networking with windows pcs also seems to be slightly faster than tiger. (And at LEAST a million times faster than in windows.) I love how macs network better with windows pcs than windows pcs network with them selves. If you guys haven't noticed, under the pcs listed on your local network if you look REALLY closely (or switch to coverflow) The windows pcs all have the BSOD on their icon What do the rest of you think? Satisfied?

    Media plays in B&W...?

    None of the suggestions worked I also downloaded the k-lite mega codec pack that I normally install right after getting windows up and running, no luck with that either. God this is the weirdest problem I've run into. It's sorta like that movie sin city? Everything is black and white, but occasionally the color red is visible. <_<

    Media plays in B&W...?

    So I've only been on this windows install for about a month, and until now its only been for visual studio/a few games. Last night I tried to watch a dvd, and I noticed that every video file type plays in black and white! Any idea what would cause this? Looked around in settings and couldn't find much....VLC plays b&w, powerdvd, windows media etc.

    OSX Leopard

    I had leopard way back in mega early beta (before the new UI) so I haven't exactly gotten to experience it yet... I'm thinkin about puttin my next paycheck towards it. That or a new graphics card. I can't really decide. I don't exactly "need" leopard since all I do on my mac is type school papers and listen to music/program for unix. Leopard isn't exactly a necessity, but it sure does look purdy.
  6. I know this is sort of a newb question... but I've been doing a bit of time programming lately, mainly just on my machine with debug releases. Well now has finally come the time where i want to send what i've done to a friend to look at. I used a library (allegro) to program some graphical stuff. How do I compile the release so that it includes the proper dll file so that other people don't have to install it?

    Safari on Windows

    I'm lovin the new metal look for it. I'm a mac user and use safari on osx over FF. I used to be a FF fan, but safari loads faster initially. (though browsing speeds are the same, as expected) and I don't have it crash. Ever. Firefox for some reason likes to crash when streaming media through it for some reason. Anyways, I tried out safari on windows. Love it. Though, i did run into a few annoying bugs but no matter, ITS A BETA! Firefox has been strong on windows for what, 2 years? Maybe 3? Give safari that long and I think it'll be fine. Plus... private browsing mode is nice for when I need to... ya know. Yah.

    unspoken rules

    Dunno if this has been mentioned or not.... If you drive by a cop, flash your head lights 3 times at oncoming traffic to warn them. Other people doing this has saved me many a time.

    Back!

    Well.... I'm back, for those of you who remember me... and those of you who don't. Haven't posted in probably a year cause i've been off to college and been participating on more gaming oriented forums. I have been completely out of date for reading up on computer stuff. Been most paying attention to games and programing. Just picked up a couple maximum pc magazines and reading reviews. dang . has changed! And aweseomly, for a first post, I decided to post this in the wrong forum. Should have gone under OCC Newbs I guess. Gah... *mod move?* So... I read that OCC has changed owners!?!?!?!? LP and D3 are gone? Wah?

    Had the car for a week and a half

    Jeez man, glad you're a-ok. I still drive a POS honda so I've got nothing to even bother trying to drive fast in. Been drivin for 3 years now and still have a clean record. Well, one time I failed to stop when it was icy and ended up with alittle crack in my light bulb cover... but that's it. Be glad you were driving a reasonably safe car and not something like a VW Bus. XD

    Back!

    I plan on getting back into folding, but unfortunetly not for a couple months. Saving up to build a new rig. As of now, I only have my mac laptop. Which will do no good for folding as it runs hot as hell just idling. Can't imagine what would happen if I started folding on it. Hell, depending on whehter or not I can get a second job this summer I may pick up a PS3 for folding. Those things are god dang beasts when it comes ot that sort of thing.
  14. Nope, that was the ONLY mirror I could find. Yes, it is my sisters makeup. dang't! Next few DAYS for the winner to be announced!?!?! I'm leaving to mexico tomorrow! So... under the slim chance that I do win.... I wouldn't be able to claim it until next weekend
  15. Ok I know this is RIGHT at the deadline for entry, and I couldn't find my camera... and this was the ONLY mirror I could find.... so... heres a pic taken from the built in webcam, via the mirror.. I've got a mac. I'm saving to build a pc, so this ram would be nice

    Get me back into programming!

    How much time are you looking to spend on a "little project to get you back into programming?" Familiar with GDI+ at all? Give that a try. It's kinda fun, can't do much more than basic drawing and animations with it (no 3d .). You could try my last programming project. If you want the full directions... I could link to em, but otherwise here's a brief (very brief) summary. Build a ship control simulation. Using C++ and .net, have a panel with 6 ports (the panel will be the ocean). Use a timer to randomly spawn ships at ports, give them a destination port etc. If ships collide, show a red x on the screen. Ships should be able to take commands from user (via a text box) to change their course and speed. I've only been programming for about 8 months... and I think you've been goin for a couple years so it shoudl be no problem for you. Gives a good chance to use a wee bit of math as well.

    Mac OSX Hacked for $10k

    Why is it that everytime a single, teensy tiny exploit is found for OS X the world makes a huge deal about it? You all realize it proves nothing? Besides, it'll be fixed within the next month and it'll take another year before someone finds an exploit again. Like Kash (I think) said, this should make people think the oppositte because it was only hacked once restrictions were loosened. And you realize that half of macs security comes because the fact that it is Unix based? (or should I say, same os that the government uses) Apples move to unix only made it 10x more secure because it's not compatible with old os9 apps... that's part of the problem with windows, microsoft trades security for backwards compatibility with win32 apps.

    Windows Vista

    Hmm.... I'm not too sure what you guys are talking about, I've got the release version and it runs ship shape. I've had IE7 crash twice in the past month. Thats basically it. Well there are a few other problems, but that is due to the fact that I'm running it on a Macbook Pro and had to use XP drivers for it on Vista.... The ONLY thing that seems to be slow is installing programs. It took 15 minutes to install acrobat reader pro! what the heck? But besides that, its a complete and total worthy upgrade from XP.

    Function In C Not Working Right, Need Help

    I've actually decided it would probably be better to define my own types using structures... so I've got typedef struct{ char course_prefix[5]; int course_number; int credits; int seats; }course_t; int get_course_record (FILE *infile, course_t *current_course); /* prototype */ result = get_course_record (sched_in, &current_course); /* function call */ /*Function definition: */ int get_course_record (FILE *infile, course_t *current_course) { char scan_prefix[strSIZE]; int scan_course_number; int scan_credits; int scan_seats; fscanf(infile, "%c", scan_prefix); fscanf(infile, "%d", &scan_course_number); fscanf(infile, "%d", &scan_credits); fscanf(infile, "%d", &scan_seats); strcopy((*current_course).course_prefix, scan_prefix); /* I'm not sure if this is correct syntax here */ (*current_course).course_number = scan_course_number; (*current_course).credits = scan_credits; (*current_course).seats = scan_seats; return 1; }
  22. So i'm workin on this project right now... due tomorrow.... not very far. Basically, I've got an input file that has schedule information in the following format. c /*this is the course prefix */ 121 /* course number */ 4 /*number of credits */ 8 /*number of seats */ The input file has 11 of these groups. I need to make a function that reads one in, and does error checking to make sure its to the proper format. If it is, it the function returns a 1 for true. If its not, a 0 is returned. The actual values of each variable are sent back via pointers. I haven't implemented any errorchecking yet, but for some reason I can't get the pointers working for the string. 121, 4 and 8 are sent back properly but the c gets returned as a bunch of garble. I've actually decided it would probably be better to define my own types using structures... so I've got typedef struct{ char course_prefix[5]; int course_number; int credits; int seats; }course_t; int get_course_record (FILE *infile, course_t *current_course); /* prototype */ result = get_course_record (sched_in, &current_course); /* function call */ /*Function definition: */ int get_course_record (FILE *infile, course_t *current_course) { char scan_prefix[strSIZE]; int scan_course_number; int scan_credits; int scan_seats; fscanf(infile, "%c", scan_prefix); fscanf(infile, "%d", &scan_course_number); fscanf(infile, "%d", &scan_credits); fscanf(infile, "%d", &scan_seats); strcopy((*current_course).course_prefix, scan_prefix); /* I'm not sure if this is correct syntax here */ (*current_course).course_number = scan_course_number; (*current_course).credits = scan_credits; (*current_course).seats = scan_seats; return 1; }

    News: Battlefield 2142 In-game Ads Use Spyware Tactics

    HOpefully the same thing will happen to this game as it did BF2. Once it gets ported to xbox, it will be better.

    Legend Of Zelda: Hero Of Time

    OMG! I mean, holy freakin crap! That is going to be pretty cool if they do it right. And kudos to them for having such great props in a low budget film!

    Ps3 And Wii

    And I read some more disappointing wii news today... the cursor isn't line of site, say like the light gun on NES. It's setup like a mouse, so when you play DUck Hunt you can't hold it like a gun and aim like that. Its like a mouse, the sensitivity is different so you may only move your controler an inch, but on the screen it will move 6 inches. Lame. LAME!
