ThunderChicken Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 i dont see why everyone regrets getting socket 754 because dual channel barely shows a real world performance in anything not noticable atleast on my friends comp same as mine just socket 939 theres no performance increase so just get the mobo you like and get the cpu you can afford and get a gig of ram and a nice vid card and that will last you a couple years
Goran Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Socket 939 is better... Will last you WAY longer
FanATIc205 Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 yeah go socket 939, im using a 754 thats all that was available at the time. i dont regret it, but if i was building today 939 will be the only way to go.
fire_storm Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 Go with 939, I like my socket 754 does every thing fine for me Like games and internet surfing. I got it because it was cheaper then 939 and I did have 400-600 dollars to spend on a processor.
zigen Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 socket 939... MSI boards rock for those and also get a 90nm 3000+ or a 90nm 3200+ or a 90nm 3500+
Ghost2520 Posted November 28, 2004 Posted November 28, 2004 You'll love that DFI mobo, I have the same one and it RULZ. Its also got an on/off and reset buttons on the motherboard it self so you don't have to hook it up to a case or short the PSU to turn it on. bluemaverick Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 (edited) That DFI board seems to get some super good review too. I guess the only thing is that the dual channel do not exist on 754.... my asnwer is simple....NO MSI for me! I do not mind Giga-byte or Asus.....but never a MSI person on mobo.....any other recommandation? KT800 or nforce3? If I do not stick with nforce3....then I have more option like Abit or Asus. FanATIc205 Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 actually the MSI NF3 mobos are pretty good, im happy with mine. the DFI is one sweet socket 754 mobo had a friend i help install one in his rig and it overclcoks like a dream. the ASUS 939 board sucks imho had a friend of mine build one on it and the bios is horrible. Wayway Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 yea I have a 754 Athlon 64 3200 and a msi k8n neo PE and its good , but i would probably go 939 and neo2 . Maybe pc club will let me bring mine back and exchange it for that . But yea I would go with a bigger power supply like 500-600 watt and get the BFG 6800 gt (Lifetime Warranty) Good luck
bluemaverick Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 I guess I would stick with the DFI.....as I refuse to use MSi still.....never have luck with them,
