  1. The thing I liked about it was the number of heatpipes and the cooling for the back of the socket. Looks like 1 hell of a cooler if it lives up to what it SHOULD do. I have always liked Thermalright's products and had good luck with them.
  2. Cooling wise, you mentioned Thermalright already, so I can only give you a link to the current top player, which is the Ultra 120 Extreme. Slap a decent 120mm fan on there, and you're good to go Actually there is one that looks to be better than the 120 it is the IFX-14 http://www.thermalright.com/product_default.htm For hard drives, I suggest Western Digital's AAKS series. The performance is top-notch and they're competitively priced. The sweet spot is currently about $110 for 500GB. As far as HD's I have had HORRIBLE luck with WD and GREAT success with Seagate. I do appreciate the advice tho. I already have the X3 PSU and I am in love with the cables and full modular design. It looks to be a beast. (overkill I am sure but better too much is than not enough) :thumbs-up:
  3. LOL these are tasty as well :thumbs-up: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820313007
  4. No specific budget no. I want that PSU for future-proofing as well as good clean power, and for the cabling that thing has. May go SLI later so I'll probably stay with Nvidia chipset, see what the next gen of GPU's brings. Other components will just be optical drives and hard drives maybe a cold cathode or 2. Normal everyday things like that.
  5. actually those don't but most of their memory does these do I am thinking of going with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820313005

    Opinions

I am going to try out a c2d this time around going to bail on AMD for a bit. Opinions on RAM would be appreciated. I am planning on using an EVGA 680i SLI mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813188013 with an E6850 C2D and an 8800GTS 640MB with the usual plethora of a couple seagate hd's and misc optical drives in a Silverstone SST-TJ07-BW case and a Ultra X3 1000 watt modular PSU Not too sure on what speed of ram to use as I will be oc'ing this hopefully close to 4ghz with good air cooling. With lots of goodies from Thermalright for my cooling duties. May go with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820313005 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820313007
  7. Ok that was what I was wondering I didn't want to get into having my cpu at one thing and my memory at another. I havent started this build yet and havent seen an Intel bios in a LONG time. So as long as the bios is 1:1 I still won't "NEED" to have ram running at 1600mhz to keep it all evenly matched then is what I gather from your response.
  8. Does anybody have any experience with this brand of ram? They have the Micron D9GKX (B6-25E) chips and an 8 layer pcb. They also appear to come with Thermalright heat sinks which I was going to buy anyway. Any thoughts/experiences? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820313009
  9. Ok, the last intel CPU I owned was an original Pentium 100Mhz. This should tell you how much exp I have with any modern Intel CPU. On an Intel CPU the FSB is "quad pumped" to get your overall FSB I get that BUT what about the memory? If for instance I overclock a E6850 to 9x400 giving me 3.6Ghz does my memory need to [email protected] or 800Mhz. Basically is the memory still double the FSB(400) or 4x the FSB(400)??
  10. LOL no i get power to the ram but no fans or post I am thinking the mobo might of took a sh$$ or maybe the 12v line is dead i am not getting power to my drives either
  11. well i cant say anything bad about this psu even if it is dead it has been running pretty much 24/7 for the last 3-4 yrs until yesterday. Not convinced that is the problem tho. I was fine till I took it apart and blew out the dirt. Maybe the dirt was holding it all together
  12. Ok help a dummy time took my old system apart and cleaned all the dust bunnies out. Now I get no post no fans nothing. I do get the red LED's on my ram and that is all. Seems like I lost all 12v power to the system. Any Ideas out there? The system is as follows Gigabyte GA7NNXP mobo, Barton XP2800, Geil golden dragon ultra RAM, GeForce 5900XT, soundblaster audigy, seagate 80gb HD not sure of PSU manufacture but it came in a raidmax alien full tower had this system for yrs with no problems I am lost. All the connections are made and tight. I did remove the CPU HSF and clean it and put new AS Ceramique that is all I changed, also removed CPU to clean old AS off. Could I have the CPU in the wrong way? which way did the arrow point on those. Been so long it is hard to remember.
  13. Arcade games= Space Invaders/Asteroids/Zaxxon/Galaga/DigDug Console=Intellivision=Pitfall/Night Stalker Nintendo(64)=Mario's/Zelda's/Tetris Early PC=Coleco ADAM(complete with cassete tape drive LOL) Zaxxon/PacMan Modern PC=Doom/Descent/Quake/Hexen/Flight Sims of all sorts especially "Jane's"
  14. What ever happened to JUST a phone. Seems you can't buy anything like a regular phone anymore. If I want an ipod or a camera I will have them I dont need 1 in my phone. The iphone is cool no doubt and looks great but who NEEDS it? No1 it is just a cool toy like most phones these days. I am sure it is great but for half the price maybe.
