I am not so sure it is lack of competition, though that is a factor for sure, but more so a lack of need. Even the big professional apps that push the hardware are having trouble really keeping the CPUs fully fed.

 

Yes, it is another very important and deciding factor behind Intel's strategy of virtually stalling the architecture improvement.

And talking about why tom's did this 'leak' - who knows? And above all, who cares?

 

For one I do. It means every site that posts a review will be posting old news.......

 

 

It may seem minor to the layman, but it's actually a pretty big deal for tech press. For the most part, press sites are typically cooperative and benefit from each other (eg. affiliates). When a site goes and leaks information like this ahead of an NDA lifting, assuming they didn't get exclusivity, they're being directly competitive and seeking page views at the expense of others.

 

In any case, the whole thing is confusing and very fishy.

Back on topic - I refuse to believe this was a sanctioned release and I really hope Tom's Hardware gets reamed for it.  This industry can't work if people decide to ignore NDAs.  Not only does this hurt every other review site in existence but it hurts Intel as well.

Oh god an argument between waco and Dr. Death. I have learned my lesson and I am staying as far away from that as possible. 

 

All I am going to say is that I really could care less what sort of performance haswell gives you. As long as you have a decent GPU, plenty of ram, a z68 motherboard or later and at bare minimum an i5 2400, then I say it will be smooth sailing until we start seeing stuff like DDR4 memory and some type of successor to sata 3.....maybe 4K as well.
