cirro Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 (edited) that amazing, too bad you still have to reduce the size of the drive. makes me wonder if a similar model that is a 320gb version would produce those speeds naturally ' -edit- i may pick up a couple of them and see how it preforms for mein a month. if not, i can ALWAYS use that space! Zertz Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 makes me wonder if a similar model that is a 320gb version would produce those speeds naturally No, what this does is disable the inner tracks of the drive which are inherently slower
supergeek101 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Then why don't they try short stroking the drive and using the rest of the storage for, say archives and unfrequently accessed stuff?
CheeseMan42 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Maybe they should have put as much effort into firmware development and testing as they did into engineering the mechanical parts.
Andrewr05 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I've known you could do this for awhile but I've never tried it..
cirro Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 No, what this does is disable the inner tracks of the drive which are inherently slower so to do that to a smaller drive, it would have to have a blank area for inner tracks so the outer tracks can be used for data? you'd think that would be a easily manufactured solution for higher data rates.. its not rocket science to upgrade a HD as it.. just dont get any dust in it :}

Zertz Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Maybe they should have put as much effort into firmware development and testing as they did into engineering the mechanical parts. It just makes sense! It's not a question of not putting the effort in. It's a disc so the outter tracks are going to be larger, nothing you can do about it Longer track = the head doesn't have to move = faster Short track = the head has to change tracks all the time = slower
