that amazing, too bad you still have to reduce the size of the drive. makes me wonder if a similar model that is a 320gb version would produce those speeds naturally

-edit- i may pick up a couple of them and see how it preforms for mein a month. if not, i can ALWAYS use that space!

No, what this does is disable the inner tracks of the drive which are inherently slower

so to do that to a smaller drive, it would have to have a blank area for inner tracks so the outer tracks can be used for data?

you'd think that would be a easily manufactured solution for higher data rates..

 

its not rocket science to upgrade a HD as it.. just dont get any dust in it :}

Maybe they should have put as much effort into firmware development and testing as they did into engineering the mechanical parts.

It just makes sense! It's not a question of not putting the effort in.

 

It's a disc so the outter tracks are going to be larger, nothing you can do about it

Longer track = the head doesn't have to move = faster

Short track = the head has to change tracks all the time = slower
