Conclusion if your lazy:

Conclusion

When buying a card such as the 9600gt OCX from BFG many would assume that the Zerotherm cooler on the card would be sufficient as it is already an upgrade from the reference cooler found on other cards. The Akasa Vortexx Neo shows that there is always room for improvement and innovation.

People with single slot cards may not want to take up the extra space in their case but anyone keen on performance and stretching the limits of their graphics card capabilities should expect a dual slot configuration in order to take advantage of modern cooling techniques.

Make sure you check it will fit your video card's layout and not just the position of the mounting holes as other components may be in the way of the cooler's low clearance. The first 9600gt we tried to fit it on (Gigabyte's 512mb Turboforce) wouldn't accept it due to the placement of the capacitors on the non-reference design.

The Akasa Vortexx Neo is quiet, easy to install, looks brilliant and produces fantastic results. To top it all off, it is available for only

Yea,

well actually in the review apparently they are almost the same as the stock cooling but the big benifit is the fan which should be almsot silent when running at 100%. But anyhow give me about 2 weeks for mine to arrive. Im buying from USA and i live in europe so it will take a bit. but ill post some before and after temps when i get it. should be good =)

It would be more useful to see the results on the new ATI cards, as the 9600GT is quite a cool card anyway. So it would be great if you could post results with your 4870 and this cooler - keep us informed?

I've heard others getting very good results with this cooler on a 4870 and with a few extra ramsinks plus the fan is apparently virtually silent [might need an additional fan controller for it though?]

I just bumped up fan speed to 30% on my 4870 [default was 23% which was silent], idle temps dropped by over 20degrees and at load its now less than it was at idle before. Of course the fan is noticeable now but I tested various speeds and found 30% the best tradeoff for cooling and noise.

GL with the cooler and let us have some info on your temps and thoughts about noise, I'd be interested if the

yeah i'm interested on how much better it does on a 4870 too, ideally I'd want a Thermalright HR-03GT but theres is no way that the GT will fit in my case with the fan (probably will leave an 1/2" to 1" and choke the fan on the heatsink) so I'm looking for a replacement that will fit but also give me the a good improvement over the stock
