Dr.Gonzo Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I was looking for the same PSU, but I read this and I was somewhat dissapointed (great price though). Hope this helps.
divided Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 yeah i saw that review. it is the ONLY one out of like 10 ive read that has been negitive. even such i dont even know what would use the -12v line and its importance. im sure once in a while EVERY power supply might fall out of spec. Pyr0 Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 they are great power supplies, i used to have the 480w version and it was really stable under load
DFI939 Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I have the 580 havent used it yet still need some more parts... but any ways over at custompc http://www.pcpro.co.uk/custompc/labs/26/cpus/products.html they test similar to toms hardware the hiper scored similar to the ocz powerstream. as long as your not runing TEC's and water cooling pumps and a whole lot of hd's I wouldnt worrie about it. I would say it is way better than the modstream. Close if not tide with the powerstream. And it is sli certified. Which must have happend after the package was made as it only states sli ready even though it is listed on that certifaction site. p0tter Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 The OCZ powerstream 600w. failed 2 tests in that roundup, pretty interesting. http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20050711...esstest-20.html Ive never been a fan of Tom's reviews seemed biased. Maybe the Hiper needs some users to prove its worth
DFI939 Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I think that toms hardware and custom pc perform similar tests. As the ocz failed there tests too. But the way I look at it is The hiper is rated at 580 watts. the mojority of computers built today wont use more than 400watts max. and will probly be closer to 300watts even that seems preaty high for a standard system. So if the hiper is what you want then go for it. I mean sure its not the very best that money can buy and it is over priced but its the sexiest psu on the market. http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/I-L...8256969003067B3
palehorse Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 is the Hiper 580 compatable with the DFI Expert board? There's something about a "REQUIRED" 8pin connector which very few PSU's seem to have...? anyone know?
fariss Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 There is no 8 pin connector. Some people will say it's OK to just use the 4 pin connector in the 8 pin slot but I wouldn't do it. However, there are 4 pin to 8 pin adapters available & most reviews claim it works well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16812183045 I'd stay away from the 20 pin to 24 pin adapter. but you won't need it.
