Kash Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Me either but McCain hasn't proposed raising my taxes so I'm sticking with him. Do you make more than $250,000? If not, then you'll actually be getting a tax CUT under Obama. McCain is simply going to continue the Bush tax cuts, which only benefit the extremely wealthy. Verran Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I voted for Obama, because that's how I'd vote right now if it was time. But the debates are where my decision will really be made. I'm not really sold on either of them and I'm seriously considering a write in for the Libertarian party, though I know that would just be a vote wasted. So far, Obama seems like the lesser evil. Phil Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 How about "Other"? There are going to be more than 2 candidates. Some of us are going to "throw our vote away" by voting for someone who actually represents real change.

I was going to add 'other', but it's really to see what the feeling is for the 2 main contenders.

ExRoadie Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 The graphic Kash provides is very accurate. Since the top 50% of taxpayers are responsible for 97% of the taxes collected it makes sense that the bottom 50% that only pays 3% of taxes shouldn't get much of a tax break. Table 6 here... http://www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/250.html For a dollar-to-dollar comparison look at Table 8 and pay attention to the very last column. The average tax rate for the bottom 50% of taxpayers in 2003 was 3.01% while the top 50% of taxpayers paid a 13.89% tax rate. Keeping the money in the economy actually generates more money in the long-run. Once the government has its hands on the money there is no potential for growth. Armed with this bit of information you can see where the tax cuts would do the most good for the economy. Of course there are those that firmly believe in confiscatory tax practices and clamor for the redistribution of wealth. But those are Communist/Socialist ideals that have no place in a free market society. Bottom Line! McCain wants to cut taxes as well as government spending. Obama wants to cut some taxes while continuing to raise government spending.
Turophiliac Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 i wanted to put my ideas down. i'm voting for McCain for the only reason i will be voting this election, gun laws. i know most people don't give a crap about guns or their owners (either that or they have watched way too many movies where guns are only portrayed as instruments of violence and murder, and think guns are evil.) i know that obama is one of these people and he truly believes that taking firearms away from law abiding citizens like myself will reduce crime. idiot. therefore my vote is cast in the direction of the GOP.
