  • 4 weeks later...

Finally I managed to complete my ram cooling setup. So here is

2x512MB TwinMos CH-5 with heatsinks

2x 80x80x15mm Zalman OP-1 fans on the plexiglass bracket

Everything installed in the Chieftec Big Dragon case:

The Chieftec case prior to the finished ram cooling with custom plexiglass

side (the plexi still has the protective foil on it - this will be removed once

I cut the 120mm fan holes in it)

What is letf to do:

- lap Pentium 1 heatsink to replace the NF4 cooler

- lap ThermalRight SI-120

- cut 2 120mm holes in the plexiglass on the side of the case (one directly on top of the SI, the other over the videocard)

- cut out the front of the case and replace 3x80mm fans with 2 120mm fans

- mount the HDD with Zalman HDD heatpipe cooler on the front botton of the case

The heatsinks already came with the thermal tape attached on the flat side.

They are sold for ~ 4$ for pair. So 8 heatsinks needed for 2 sticks.

A while ago I put copper heatspreaders on the ram but they were not really

flat and some chips did not make contact with the haetspreders and it was impossible to repair that so I ripped the suckers off and now I put these

babies on.

These heatsinks are perfectly flat and they hold :D I alredy had one like these installed on my NF2 system and when I got a 512MB stick (along 2x 256MB) I had

to remove these heatsinks. Not that was an hour and a half job. I'm sure I could have ripped a chip or two out if I just pull them off :D

The downside of these heatsinks is that I had to cut a portion off in order to

avoid tuching capacitors in the upper right corner (I cut both heatsinks if I will

exchange the sticks) and dual chanell in the orange slots is a no go because

of the clearence issues. Only upper orange slot can used. Bit I prefer yellow

slots anyway.
