RichMayo Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 (edited) Another, good idea stolen by the Man... http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558...2129TX1K0000532 On the other hand, these can probably be expected to work for a good long while... R. Rats. Somebody beat me to the post.... Edited January 5, 2006 by RichMayo
kobalt Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Indeed a great idea from WD modders will flock over this
Ste Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Yes great idea but, how often would you really look at the top of your harddrive? While its inside of a case, and usally not in a very visable place. And how many people would have cases like the ones they listed?
gunak87 Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Many Lian Li cases mount the hard drives on their side. That HD would look great in one.
kobalt Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Well it would look great in mine but i'm not going to pay some big bucks Co. to make it for me loll i'll do it myself
DECwakeboarder Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 For $350 if you do an array that's over $700...I can do SCSI w/ 320mb sustained transfer rates and be much better off...most HDs are in racks under optical drives anyways, so this is really nothing big for most modders, but I'm sure many people will buy it just for the "look at me, I'm 1337" factor. burgerLord Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 (edited) Well hey, maybe WD wants to have "look at me im 1337" factor? Edited January 6, 2006 by burgerLord
swifty11212 Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Well hey, maybe WD wants to have "look at me im 1337" factor? 611584 meh, and they need active cooling too although those drives are good imo ill prolly run a 200+gig hdds in raid-0 whether its in ide or sata interface. MindDrive Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 http://case-mods.linear1.org/hard-drive-mod/ i like that one better ^^^ tho its not as bling as the wd one heres another one: http://www.grynx.com/index.php/projects/pl...rddrive-window/ ^^^ that ones a hack job tho - in order for a hard drive to be opened its gadda be a "Class - 1" dust free environment - meaning that there is literally NO DUST at all -- your bedroom or anywhere in your house has enough dust in it to kill thousands of harddrives in just 1 square inch of air and that guys dremelling out the lid ON the harddrive LOL but 350 bucks for 150 gig 10K drive taint bad at all (thinkin 300gig raid-0 )
ady1989 Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 they look cool, yes, but i have a real problem with corporations stealing ideas from modders. some might object to this, but its the way i see it.
ClayMeow Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 they look cool, yes, but i have a real problem with corporations stealing ideas from modders. some might object to this, but its the way i see it. 611617 some of us don't want to waste our time (or don't have the time) to do a mod ourself if one's readily available. For example, I'm very glad that you can easily get a windowed case and don't have to do it yourself.
i_lag Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 they should have just saved everyone some cash by not putting that stupid clear cover on, it was a good idea.....in theory, but who the heck wants to look at your Harddrive go round and round....cuz thats all a hard drive does...... so you could either play BF2 or CS:S on your computer or you could watch your computers harddrive spin? hmmm, uhhh.ummmm....... *quote: a mindless idiot*"ill take the hard drive!!!"
