holy crap 60C!!!!! somethings wrong with my 5970 lol

may be his was running at 100% fan speed.

Yeah , doesnt everyone use 100% fan when oc'ing ? This card runs so much cooler than my GTX480. In Dirt 2 under full load my GTX480 stock got 55 degrees celsius , my new HD5970 overclocked get the same as the GTX480 stock at 55 degrees . Both the GTX480's and HD5970's fan speeds were at 100%.

How did Speedway get 20000 on his ??? I did everything I could and it still wouldn't get there . Maybe I should get a PhysX card like a 240GT or something .But im not sure how the drivers would work when running both ati and nvidia.

I didn't get that 20k score on a 5970, it was on 2 5870's in CF, which will outperform the 5970, which you saw me say in an earlier post. You commented that the 5970 will overclock as well as the 5870, and it seems like that would be true, since they are all 5870 gpu's, but it just isn't! Main reason is the fact you can overclock the 5870 higher than the 5970, so 2 5870's have higher possible max clocks than the 5970 that is essentially 2 downclocked 5870 gpu's on the same board. Hope this shines some light on my 5870 CF 20K+ score, as well as the 5870's being able to reach higher overclocks than the 5970! Main reason I switched was more about heat with 2 cards in CF than anything!

The 5970 for being a 5870x2 board runs impressively cool! Mine is in the 50-60 range stressed as well. What are your temps shadow?

Two HD5870's will out perform the HD5970 stock since the 5970 is downclocked with a lower voltage . But when you raise the voltage to what the HD5870's voltage is then you can overclock it to exactly the same ! But just after that you say this ...

First you say that the HD5970 clocks just as well as the HD5870 since the same gpu is used but then you say next that the HD5870's reach higher overclocks ! How can the HD5870 clock better when the HD5970 uses exactly the same cores as the HD5870 !!! Its only the cooling that restricts overclocking since the cores are exactly the same !

What were your clocks when you got 20k ? I can only thinks its my 32bit limiting me since Im only able to use 2.2gb of ram since the HD5970 is mapping itself into my OS ! I'll be getting 64-bit tomorrow then I can be free of a bottleneck on my HD5970 and be able to use all 4gb of my ram . My 5970 score was on a Sata 3gbps HDD with 16mb cache so when I install my 64-bit on my Sata 6gbps 64mb cache HDD it should raise my score .

No, I never sd that the 5970 will overclock the same as the 5870, you only quoted part of my comment and not the rest where I went on to say that the 5970 just doesn't oc as high as the single 5870's. Even when you raise the voltages on the 5970, it still doesn't get up to the overclocks that single 5870's can achieve, even though they are they same gpu. I knew when I decided to go the 5970 route instead of my CF 5870 setup that I would be losing performance and overclocking headroom, but I traded those 2 things for less heat! But, I'm also glad that I originally went with 2 5870's and Crossfired them, becasue I read everywhere they would oc better than the 5970, and now I know this 1st hand!

I'm pretty sure when I hit the 20K+ that my 5870's were sitting @ 1015/1305

If you tell me what voltage you used to get 1015 and 1305 then I will show you that the HD5970 overclocks exactly the same. My HD5970 is already sitting at 940mhz and 1300mhz so its not such a jump to those clocks . I will get my computer fully optimised tomorrow and then we'll see.

Pretty sure it was 1.25 or 1.275.....but go ahead and bump it all the way to 1.3V Nyt if you have to! I'm not pulling your leg, you can read about this pretty much anywhere. Everyone else comes to the same conclusion about overclocking 5870 vs 5970 cards. But, every card IS different, so it will be interesting to see if you can get your clocks up that high!

well at 100% fan speed my cards temps are at about 75-85C, voltage at 1137
