davidhammock200 Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 UPDATE: October 20th, 2006:davidhammock200, Happy_Games, ExRoadie This list of recommended power supplies only applies to hardware available in North America and tested by DFI-Street. Enermax Liberty 620w PSU is no longer on our recommended list. Way too many issues with this power supply. DO NOT BUY TO USE ON DFI SYSTEMS! Also note we've added the Corsair HX-620 (620w) psu and I can honestly say it is EXTREMELY recommended as a top psu, and we've added 3 Antec units, and a Hiper unit! UPDATE: June 14th, 2006 DFI-Street.com Certified (ie: HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION) OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply (personally tested by Happy_Games. This and the OCZ 700w GX are my two favorite psu's!) OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply (current top-rated, top-recommended psu by Happy_Games and majority of the forum!) FSP Group (Fortron Source) Epsilon FX600-GLN ATX12V/ EPS12V 600W Power Supply FSP Group (Fortron Source) Epsilon FX700-GLN ATX12V/ EPS12V 700W Power Supply Corsair HX620w ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 620W Power Supply (Active PFC) (quickly becoming Happy_Games' favorite psu. Modular, strong rails, low-heat, nearly silent...excellent excellent unit!) PC Power & Cooling TURBO-COOL 1KW-SR SLI, EPS12V, SSI 1000W Power Supply 90 - 264V Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ATX12V 650W Power Supply with Three 12V Rails (personally tested by Happy_Games...excellent choice for X1900 Crossfires / 7900 SLI's!) These PSU's are all very very capable of powering up the latest 7900GT and 7900GTX SLI, 7950GTX, X1800XT and X1900XT Crossfire, AMD AthlonX2/Opteron Dual Core cpu's, and ALL current DFI motherboards including the following: DFI Lanparty NF4 series original DFI Lanparty NF4 Expert DFI Lanparty NF4 Venus DFI Lanparty RDX200 (ATI) DFI Lanparty CFX3200-DR (ATI) DFI Lanparty future AMD socket AM2 motherboards of all chipset flavors DFI Lanparty future Intel Conroe motherboard of all chipset flavors ALL CURRENT DFI MOTHERBOARDS AND ANY DFI MOTHERBOARD FOR AT LEAST ONE MORE YEAR FROM THE DATE OF THIS POST UNLESS SOMETHING DRASTIC CHANGES IN POWER REQUIREMENTS! These are very reliable psu's that are more than capable of doing the job. Notice that the top 4 are almost identical (the OCZ and Fortron/FSP psu's). They are all manufactured by Fortron, and are the highest recommended psu's in the forum as they have the largest user base, and the least amount of complaints. I always recommend the OCZ psu's since we have a few OCZ reps in this forum who have always been more than willing to help out mutual customers (and they have even helped out non-OCZ customers!). The only real difference between the OCZ and FSP power supplies is the OCZ psu's have a blue LED fan, and the Fortron psu's do not have any LED fans. And finally, the 1000w PCP&C psu. Everyone should by now know that PCP&C is the maybe the top name in power supplies...but you pay a premium for them. The 510w version is extremely solid, but we simply cannot recommend it for the highest high end setups like those mentioned above. For that, you want to have any of the psu's on this list, including the PCP&C for your ultimate power needs. If you can afford this thing, you definitely want it. Again, if you want a solid power supply that is reliable, trustworthy, and a growing majority of the users here are turning to, choose one of the OCZ GamerXstream power supplies. My personal favorite is the 700w (see the sig of Happy_Games) OCZ BleedinEdge Support Forum Andy@OCZ Ryder@OCZ Tony@OCZ Marcus@OCZ (EU) All of the above are EXCELLENT PSU's & are THE MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! My personal choice for the most demanding systems is the Corsair HX 620W from only $150! If you are NOT running UBER SLI/CF, then the Corsair HX 520W is my #1 choice from only $105! If you have the bucks ($549!), the new PC P&C 1KW-SR (Single Rail: +12V@72A) is one of "THE BEST PSU's MADE". My personal choice for "BEST BANG for the BUCK" is the OCZ GXS 600W for about $85! I'm a bit confused as to how this affects the power output, e.g. for a SLI system Compatible with Intel SSI "EPS12V Ver 2.0" & AMD "ATXGES" power supply form factors.Yes it is fine, but overkill as it is designed to support dual CPU's & dual VC's (SLI). Nil Einne Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Hi, Thanks for your reply, a few more questions, what do you think of the SilverStone 65zf: http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-65zf.htm It looks like a good PSU one of the few Nvidia certified for SLI. But one potential disadvantage is it doesn't have dual fans so does offer any benefits to case airflow. Then again, maybe that's necessary to so the components don't get so hot... It also doesn't have the -5v but my understanding is that doesn't matter at least for most boards (bar MSI ones with the Live!) including the DFI ones? And what about this TT? http://www.thermaltake.com/purepower/w049a...w0049atx12v.htm It looks okay but despite being rated 680w, the 12V is worse then the SilverStone one which I suspect would mean it would be worse for most demanding systems, even non SLI ones, like dualcore ones for example or extreme overclocked ones. Or maybe I'm wrong? Would you agree this PSU is probably overall worse then the above Silverstone? It's interesting coz the SilverStone is cheaper! Finally, I know the EnerMax NoiseTaker 485W is considered quite a good choice http://www.enermax.com.tw/products_page.ph...&Gid=18&Gid2=46 Would you say the SilverStone 650W is comparable to what you would expect from a 650W NoiseTaker (I don't know if such a thing exists, I'm just making a point)? Or would you say it's comparable to a lower rated NoiseTaker? And what about the TT? The reason I ask is because the TT and the SilverStone are the only extremely highly rated PSUs available where I live for a decent price (which is not the US so I don't want a bunch of links) so I'm just wondering whether they are worth it and considering them compared to the EnerMax 480W which is also available for a decent price but clearly isn't so highly rated even tho it meets the DFI requirements helps to provide a clearer picture. Thanks for your help.
davidhammock200 Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 The SilverStone has some rather extreme crossloading requirements, which low to mid-range systems may not be able to meet. Fine for high demand systems. SilverStone discussion: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/show...ad.php?t=165219 Check the other threads, those TT's are being returned faster than their being sold. Typical TT, good show, but not much go. Enermax's are highly recommended as long as the meet the other requirements. Dave
zeero Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 fyi: I have an ultra x-connect 500W and bought the 24 pin wire (not adapter) for it. However, on my Ultra-D board, the P4 connector is so close to the 24 connector that the odd shape of the power chords for the x-connect wont allow them to both fit next to each other. If I plug the 24 pin in, I can't fit the P4 plug without bending the capacitor on the other side of it. I had to slightly modify the P4 pin to squeeze in between. I'll post pics soon. seamuso Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 I started with an Antec NeoPower .. it caught on fire after 6 days (seriously filled my house with smoke). Replaced with a Seasonic S12 600watt, no problems at all, but .. Neopower was $109, I got all back except 15% so ... $160 for seasonic $ 19 for shipping to get it here quick $ 16 return charge on NeoPower $ 7 shipping the neopower back for the $200 I just spent, I could have got something a whole lot better, but I tried to save a little money somewhere I shouldn't have. As for the "wire" you bought(did you get the one from ultra?), it has 20 pins on the PSU end and 24 pins on the other, right? Doesn't it make it an adaptor after all? Regards D. tcg_modder Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 i see peopel bashing the SS Zues PSU, but its funyn how none of these peopel actually own one, or have done a single test on one to verify how good it is. i presonally have one, but am unable to use it due to full computer in sig minus CPU ( damn AMD ! send my retail 4000 SD core) 9 times out of 10, people who buy DFI baords arent going to be your normal average user who just runs bare specs and surfs the net. its people who do run quality parts, who OC and are pushing close to or are high end systems. so, why did nvidia give this thier SLI approval if it is such a bad PSU? im not trying to be a butt, i just want to know. if someone says somethign is junk, i want to see some type of results from thier testing that it is junk. i dont want word of mouth. has any DFI people tested this PSU on thier boards? all PSU's have some cross-over requirements. maybe they arent as high as the SS one, but i doubt its as bad as people are complaining about. if so, produce your tests to verify it.
