red930 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 I don't know how a PSU works, but SATA power does contain a yellow, orange, and red wire. The red is 5V, the yellow is 12V, so I don't know if it's connected to the 12V rail or not but it does have a 12V wire going to it. Could be there for a future application maybe. *shrug*
General Septem Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Could be there for a future application maybe. *shrug* I'd say it's definitely getting 12V. Wiki seems to agree: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SATA#Cables_and_Connectors I just don't know if all 12V power comes from "the" 12V rail (although it would make sense). Like I said I have no idea how a PSU really works. Of course there's also the issue of whether or not the 5V and 3.3V rails are strong enough. You can always get a secondary PSU and jumper the green wire on the ATX connector to a ground wire. Just use it for your HDDs. davidhammock200 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 I have a Lian Li PC-V2100 Case that can handle 15 hard drives and a Dvd writer. Is there a PSU that can handle this? The rest of my specs are in my signature. Dual PSU's & telephone PC P&C for their recommendation. Zippy has many PSU's that would work, however they might not fit in your case. EDIT: SATA HDD's use the +12V at about 3A: http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/datasheet/...uda_7200_10.pdf Dave
Angry_Games Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 SATA HDD's use the +12V at about 3A: http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/data...da_7200_10.pdf Dave ah...then bad idea with the cpu and video and damn near everything else running off the 12v rail
