darreljaeger83 Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 What do you guys think of the new Intel Processors? (6xx)
r_target Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 They seem better than the 5xx, but I don't know if that's saying much.
Silverfox Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 i think that they are going to need some serious cooling. either way, i think a lot of the more "with-it" computer builders are going to avoid them because teh 939 A64's are so cheap and perform really well. Â not to p|ss on intels fire, but, they are rather expensive - these new faster chips will be beyond some people's budgets. shame. nice and reliable but a bit too hot for most people! GameGuru1 Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 Yeah, I'll stick with me Northwood. If I were to upgrade, I would definitely look to AMD. Intel just isn't with it atm.

GregP24 Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 Looks like Intel is still suffering from extreme suckitude. At least they are sucking in 64-bit now. Â I should get one of those new EE's. I could use it to heat my house.
Nuclear Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 Bah, as far as I'm concerned Intel no longer makes a EE chip. A Prescott core'd EE is not a EE, it's either go galatin or go home. That's why you are seeing the new EE chips are slower previous versions. Â I think eventually Intel will get it worked out. Maybe we expected too much from them? When AMD went A64, it was so new to so many people that we took whatever came, and loved it. Intel is coming in at a tougher time, because we have a notion of what 64s will do and we expect a smidge above that.
swifty11212 Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 i agree with super nuc, just wait and see, intel still recovering from amd's deadly blow
Kash Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 At least this goes to prove that clock speed isn't everything. The 6xx line is clocked at exactly the same speeds as their 5xx equivalents, except the 6xx line is 64-bit and an extra 1MB of L2 cache. Â It's too bad that these chips are still so hot, otherwise they show a lot of potential. Â This is also a good thing for AMD, since they now get about a $12 royalty per chip Intel produces
drewkivela Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 they look like a decent facelift, some better tech and are supposed to run cooler -drew
darreljaeger83 Posted February 23, 2005 Posted February 23, 2005 I think Intel has really lost its way in the processor world. They need to get an attitude and fight AMD quick before they loose even more of their customer base. Come on INTEL!!! PROVIDE AMD SOME COMPETITION!
