HomerJaySimpson Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Well, i've gotta learn both these languages for college. Well, they teach me them on the course but i wanna get a headstart. I've been meaning to learn c++ for about 2 years now lol, but i can never be bothered and i get bored as hell. Java seems a bit more interesting and im assuming it'll be easier. So would i be better off starting with Java and then learn c++?
Ghost2520 Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 I'd say java, I heard its a less code requirer language than C++ meaning you can do the same thing in Java as C++, but less coding required.
henbenley Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 I took a comp sci class that required some java and its pretty simple basic stuff, and it looks as though c++ is a little harder than java to me, but i've never done any c++ only java
HomerJaySimpson Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 Well i've been reading the tutorials and docs on sun.java.com and just been getting my head around object orientated programming. It's probably the best tutorial i've come accross so far and explained it in terms even i could understand. How long does it usually take to master a language like this? virus Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 C++ isnt really hard at all, I cant compare it to java cause ive never done java. but C++ is sooooo boring. Â Id go with Java
Aristotle Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 If you are a total noob, learn some Java. When you become proficient in Java, then move on to PERL and then do some C++

Leldorion Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 http://www.programmingtutorials.com/ Â I don't know anything about java....maybe you should look into the strengths and weaknesses of each of the two languages and decide on why/what you want to code most according to what you learn (i.e. I want to learn how to code so I can create applications that work well over a network...etc). LobbDogg Posted August 31, 2004 Posted August 31, 2004 I personally cannot stand Java, maybe its just me, but I'd say C++, and yes I've coded with both before.
