BabyBalrog Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 BOO on presscott BOO on SE cards rethink your choices if your are planning on speening 150 on the presscott instead spend 150 on like a radeon 9600xt jsut my 2 cents
Nuclear Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 I would go for neither. The 9600SE is a bad idea if you plan to game any, and you'll need to get a good H20 system to keep that prescott cool at stock speeds. I had a 2.8e and 3.0e Prescott. Both ran too hot for normal air, and water only kept it cool at stock speeds. If you have a machII, it will OC great...if not, then I would get a NW. airman Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 the 9600se will not beat your ti4200. the 9600se has really slow clock speeds and really crappy memory.
r_target Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 While you save another $50,keep your eye on the Sunday sale papers;CompUSA and BestBuy have been having on & off 9800Pro sales>$200.And OC that 2.4.
4MD_4_M3 Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 ya 2.4's are generally really good oc'ers. Wait and save up the money to get a 9800pro, you'll thank us
DarkScorpion Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 Yes, do NOT even go NEAR the 9600SE, nothing but CRAP. A good refurbed card is the 9700Pro, 135 Refurbished off of NewEgg. Ask InvaderTrax, he bought one. AS for the Processor, you should keep your 2.4C, those are supposed to be REALLY good at OCing, due to the low multiplyer. Just get some good cooling and OC at a 5:4 divider, seeing as how you only have PC3200 ram. So the bottom line is, buy refurbed 9700Pro/new 9800Pro and OC your 2.4C. Guest Ballz2TheWallz Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 dangIT NO PRESSCOTT i feel sorry for the n00bs who just go and buy things without doing research, but good thing you asked us either way you would have been dissapointed on what you bought, SE cards have 64bit memory controller and a ti4200 is much better than any SE, presscotts run slower than northwoods produce more heat and oc the same, in short buy a 9800pro for $200 of newegg unless you have a good motherboard and cooling get a 3.0C p4, with good motherboard and cooling they can hit 4ghz
hardnrg Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 spec, you could probably oc yer current cpu to 2.8 if you tried... possibly more... and the performance difference between getting a new processor or a new graphics card depends what you wanna do... if you wanna game, a decent card like the much lauded 9800pro (256bit) will boost your 3D speed massively... the cpu upgrade wouldn't do as much in that respect... Anyway, here's the card I got. When you get it, you'll either need to at least remove the thermal tape. However, the push clips it uses are one time use, you you'll need some ultra long ones (unless you manage to get the originals out). Other than that, it's a great card http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....&type=Refurbish Suggested cooler: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-110-106&depa=0 Edited June 17, 2004 by InvaderTrax
