Laststop Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I'm hearing some people say the i5-2550k may overclock better because it has no integrated gpu at all using any power. Any truth to this?
PremiumAcc Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Short answer: No. Those statements are unfounded. It is merely rumor and speculation. Refer to this thread for past comments regarding the 2550k: Link The general consensus within the enthusiast communities is that you are paying more for less with the 2550k. Laststop Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I know they can disable the integrated gpu but doesnt it still end up using a few watts. So wouldn't that theoretically slightly help even if its only 3 watts saved.
scr4wl Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I've still only seen one 2550K overclock, but it was at 5.4GHz with a multi of 52. Unfortunately this doesn't mean that the chip is a better or worse overclocker, because until we see more results we won't no. On average the 2500K overclocks to 5Ghz, if I had to guess, so will the 2550K.

At max, it can match 2500K which seems to very unlikely at this point of time.
TheHostileGamer Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Pulled this out of my butt, haven't really gone into "tweaking mode" Since I'm only hitting 50c I'm not really wanting to up the voltage much more.

You can't say this with any real confidence. It is possible that the 2550K will overclock better on average. We just don't know yet. Prunes Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I vote for someone to take a loan and buy, let's say, 30 chips of both 2500k and 2550k and overclock 'em all. We have to know, right?
Hyper Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 If you want to buy them I'll test them
