Guest_Jim_* Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 The Google+ Project OCC News Item. Like the title says, this is a place to discuss Google+. I already signed up for an invite and when that comes I will post what I think here. Could be interesting as I've never used any other social networking service. For those of you that have experience with the likes of Facebook, let us know what you think, based on the demos and if you get invited. Here's another opinion I forgot to mention: Google+: xkcd. Guest_Jim_* Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 It is now being reported that once in the beta you can invite others. Google has shut that down now.
Deathmineral Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Normally I really hate social networking but google does a pretty good job with making stuff enjoyable and easy to use. I really hope this takes off and people forget about that trashy Facebook.
tkrow21 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I got an invite, but apparently I don't meet the unspecified age to be eligible for the service.

Google + and Age Apparently there is an age limit of 18, but they may reduce it to as low as 13, once they're sure teens will be safe there. I agree with the comment suggesting 18+ only users. Personally I'm sick of hearing about my 7 year old cousin's boyfriend, that's sick. rocketeer55 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Personally, I don't agree with the 18+ age limit. Most teens i know are plenty safe on the internet, whether is being Facebook or other websites. I do know some, however, that pass on those stupid virus links that download crap to your computer and sends it to all your friends. Maybe Google can implement some sort of limit to how much you can post, or what you post, so these sort of things don't happen. Or maybe they can have a thing where the parents have to allow their kids to use it... Just my biased (I am under 18) opinion... Honestly saying most teens you know doesn't really help your argument as you prove that you are fairly smarter than the average teen by having computer knowledge, that being overclocking, knowing how viruses work and avoiding them, and simply using decent spelling and grammar when you make a post. It's pretty clear you probably don't make attempts to surround yourself with stupid people is all I'm saying, they'd probably know how to safely use the internet. Â The 18+ plus idea can't be taken very seriously anyway, it's not like kids can't lie about their age on the internet. Heck back in my day the hip thing was yahoo messenger and there were thousands of 12 years on there that were born in 1954!

ir_cow Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I just don't see "Google+" as a selling name. google does make good products but unless facebook starts spaming me with ads like myspace did i'm not going to switch.
Guest_Jim_* Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 It is now being reported that once in the beta you can invite others. Google has shut that down now. Google has disabled the ability to invite others to Google+, due to high demand is what I'm seeing. It's funny because I thought I saw somewhere that people were already limited to a certain number of invites in an hour. Still, it does seem silly to me that they don't have any invite system because what would happen if you get on there but no one you know is there? Social networking without the social. True, that's only the case for the beta.

True, that's only the case for the beta. I'm going to guess there were people abusing the invite system actually. For example someone on 4chan or somewhere like that got in and they just started inviting everyone else on there, that's quite a large group of people, and a lot of them you don't really want in google+ either, they'd probably ruin about the same way they try to ruin youtube.
