Danny_75 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Im trying to sort a new cooler and trying to find out how many watts of heat my i7 will throw out. I have seen 2 cooler from LD one will hold 280w @ -30 the other will hold 300w @-50 (Rotary) Just want to be sure i get the right one. Hope someone can help Regards Dan
ir_cow Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 well an OC i7 can hit 200 TDP but thats for 9xx ones, i duno about yours it should be less. you are at 4.3ghz which is push any air cooler to its limits.

I think some motherboards can tell you the wattage the CPU is using, I remember my cousin's x4 620 had an indicator in CPUID's Hardware Monitor that increased when I bumped up the vcore. My Q9450 does not have this luxury but your i7 might.

It might be that same thing but not sure. If so i would say 180 ish but dont think so.
DanTheGamer11 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) Won't the electricity bill be high or is that TEC? Edited December 2, 2010 by Dan The Gamer

The readings it gave me for my cousin seemed about right. Watts are Watts right?

Watts are Watts right? Not sure tbh. I have found this site power Its says it will be 190W @4.5 with 1.45V I have just looked @ HW mon and @4.0GHz it says that im puling 82.88 watts if i load all the cores it still says 88.82 watts. (evan with a HW mon restart. Think i will just get the cooler thats rated @280W @ -32. It a mine feild all this lol Won't the electricity bill be high or is that TEC? Dunno about the bill mate not evan thought about it. Edited December 3, 2010 by Danny_75
medbor Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Phase change is nice, since it isn't a power hog as TEC and still gives some nice negative degrees good luck on that

Ya, my cousin's processor is rated at 95W and overclocked HWMonitor called it like 106.5W or something but 88.82W sounds really low for your processor, overclocked or not lol Idk, hopefully someone can post up a reliable method of checking on that
ARandomOWL Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 It depends whether you are benchmarking or running the phase 24/7. Obviously the 300w @ -50 is a better unit. It should hold 280w below -50. On the other hand, the 280w unit won't be able to hold a 300w load at -30, it may hold it, but at a higher temp.
