Open up task manager and click on your performance tab, you won't see all your CPU or Memory resources at 100%, otherwise you do have an issue with your CPU. Extracting 7-16GB's, your single WD Caviar Black's throughput is limited and doesn't have enough bandwidth to perform other functions as well because it's already working at full load to extract all that porn, I mean data... What slows it down so much is the fact that the hard drive has to keep seeking (the slowest part) back and forth between the data going to the external and the data being used by the OS and web browser. Try to use winrar first than report back but if you are unzipping a 7gb file of course its gonna bog down the computer since the file bigger than all your ram. Upgrading to a multi-threaded application such as 7zip would help though. In terms of "real world" applications, the SSD shines extremely well for this! My 80GB Intel x 2 SSD RAID 0 setup using Winrar takes seconds to unzip a 1080p movie, which are usually around +/- 8GB If I remember correctly the last 1080p movie took less than 30 seconds to unzip and transfer on my system Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
