R1P5AW Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) What is the best stress test in your opinion to determine your "stable" overclock for your CPU? Prime 95 xx hours? LinX xx runs? IBT? OCCT? How much testing do you do to personally claim a chip as "stable"? EDIT: Stable meaning comfortable 24/7/365 operation Edited April 8, 2010 by R1P5AW
scr4wl Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) As a quick test I prefer OCCT, and if we're talking about overclocking a video card I consider a few hours of OCCT to be stable. For a final overclock on a CPU I don't call it 24/7 Stable unless it can run Prime95 for 24 hours without errors. (Sometimes I'll consider 23 hours stable, depending on how bored I am) While overclocking I'll usually run OCCT for an hour every 200MHz to make sure that everything is still stable. My final test is always Prime95 though. Edited April 8, 2010 by tacohunter52
gotdamojo06 Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 When I'm in the process of overclocking I will run 30 min of IBT to check for quick stability but when I'm done I will run at least 12 hrs of prime95...I try and shoot for 2shrs but usually end up stopping it if I have something important to do after at least 12hrs
CowKing Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 20 IBT tests then 2 hours of OCCT: Linpack
hardnrg Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Quick Test: HyperPi 32M Medium Test: LinX 20 runs, max RAM Medium Test: 3DMark Vantage Long Test: Prime95, Small FFT, 8 hours Long Test: Prime95, Blend, 24 hours Final Test: Prime95, Blend, 48 hours I'd do quick and medium tests until voltage tweaking is necessary, and then use long tests for feeling out the maximum OC... and confirm with final test
R1P5AW Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 (edited) Wow all quick replies from great contributors to OCC..thanks guys I'm currently tweaking my 930 for a comfortable 24/7 OC and am at 4.20 @ 1.3625v. It is IBT and OCCT stable and running LinX 20 runs problem size 25,000. If I pass I will run Prime 95 overnight and through tomorrow. Thanks again for your input Edited April 8, 2010 by R1P5AW

KK_ Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 personaly i just do 10 passes with intel burn test. if the clock isnt stable it normaly picks up on it in a few mins
tkrow21 Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Prime95 is my favorite. Most problems happen in the first ten minutes, and if they don't come in eight, you're pretty much guaranteed stability.
ccokeman Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Quick Test: HyperPi 32M Medium Test: LinX 20 runs, max RAM Medium Test: 3DMark Vantage Long Test: Prime95, Small FFT, 8 hours Long Test: Prime95, Blend, 24 hours Final Test: Prime95, Blend, 48 hours I'd do quick and medium tests until voltage tweaking is necessary, and then use long tests for feeling out the maximum OC... and confirm with final test Prime 95 for 24+ hours on the custom blend test has never let me down. When I fold It has to be 100% stable so I dont send in junk Work units!
cirro Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 OCCT 1hr test + Prime95 24hr blend test I'd like to settle down to one, but i've had things OCCT would lock up on, even after 24hr blend.
Hyper Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 IBT for 10 passes for a quick test while pushing the oc. OCCT for an hour then Prime95 for 8-12hrs for final..
