As the title suggests this is my first computer build from scratch, so I'd feel a lot better if a few people could look over my idea and let me know if it's good or if there's some incompatibility/conflict/etc that I didn't notice all the way down to if I have the right power connectors coming from the PSU. Any advice would be welcome on top of that! I need advice on the cpu heatsink, because I can't seem to find one that's rated consistently well. Anyhow, advice on anything is helpful. Pointing out issues is begged for! GabrielT Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Well, I would sugest a good set of DDR3 1600 and save about $50, anything faster shows very little to no actual gain in normal usage. The only time 200mhs is going to make a difference in ram is a benchmark and even then the difference is slim. The case is largely personal preference, I have heard good things about Thermaltake cases. Everything looks good to me, you could go with a cheaper motherboard but that one is a very nice one. By the OCC review of the Noctua the temps got as high as 86C ( http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/noctua_nhu12p/5.htm ), whereas the V8 got about 55C ( http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/cm_v8/4.htm ). Cooler Master V8 seems to outrank the other two coolers in review and ratings, so I think I'm going with that. Oddly enough, to step down to Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 would cost the same, since it's $20 less but doesn't come with the $20 RAM cooler.
