Hi, I think I finally decided on a case, the NZXT Guardian and I thought I decided my CPU but it seems out of stock now :( so now I need to make my decision again. Anyways my price range for CPU is like $135 and less I would say. I want to pay for what I get so I want to know if its worth the price.

MY OPTIONS SO FAR:

AMD Athlon X2 7550 2.5GHz: $50

AMD Phenom X3 8650 2.3 GHz: $95

AMD Phenom X4 9750 2.4GHz: $135

Please list ANY lower prices on these in Canada or any other suggestion IN my price range.

What I need this for?

Will I need it for Gaming, high end gaming and use Photoshop on it also I am going to play GTA 4 but my last CPU: AMD X2 5200 2.7 Ghz run it pretty smooth will it make a different if I get a X3 or X4? I also use it to make some 3D work and 2D work for fun, not work.

My Build specs are:

Assus M3N78-VM Motherboard (AM2+)

Nvidia 9600 GT OC

OCZ StealthXstream 500 Watts P/S

1 TB HD WD Caviar Black edition

4 Gb DDR2 dual channel ram 800 mhz

NZXT Guardian 921

CD Drive

Any other information you need to know?

Welcome to OCC! ^_^

What are the specs of your planned build so far?

+1, if you don't have a motherboard yet, you can find a great Phenom II in your price range.

Is there a reason you're going AMD?

My Mother board is AMD and there cheaper.

You should definitely be looking at Phenom II and not old Phenom I. On your budget, probably the 550.

According to PriceCanad (Link) its a dual core and the cheapest is $120 wouldn't it be better if I just spend $15 more on the quad core I listed?

Linked Build Specs:

Assus M3N78-VM: $84

Nvidia 9600 GT OC: $73 (FutureShop PM- No link)

OCZ StealthXstream 500 Watts P/S: $67 cheaper then link (BOUGHT)

1 TB HD WD Caviar Black edition: $98+Free Ground shipping on entire order (Ordered at special-Can cancel order)

4 Gb DDR2 dual channel ram 800 mhz: $52

NZXT Guardian 921: $108

CD Drive: $24

In my opinion, definitely not. The original Phenom chips were really not that great. The new Phenom II's, however, are really turning heads. They're awesome.

Personally, I would not buy a first generation Phenom.
