Unofficial Opteron 939 Thread

Recommended Posts

I haven't poked around looking for Vdimm on the Expert, but the Vcore points are in an analagous spot to the other nF4 boards. There are three resistors right in a row next to the CPU bracket on the side closest to the top of your case. Just like an Ultra-D, but rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise. No digi-cam; let me know if you need better directions.

would that be c203, c293, & c198 on the expert?

Yep. Those are the ones.

TY sir! I'll report back in a while with the readings.

I've been checking DRAM voltage settings between BIOS & smartguardian & mbm5.

I'm keeping a chart as they report much lower than in BIOS. If you do get around to finding the measurement points for DRAM V I'ld sure be interested.

Thanks again!

I only made a couple of measurements of vcore on the Expert board:

using special control n bios set at 1.562v/reads 1.53v/measures 1.557v

---------------------------------1.598v/reads 1.58v/measures 1.596v

I'm happy that they're so close btwn bios & measure.

I wonder about the DRAM V?

Thanks for getting back to us. Mine are damn close to BIOS set values as well. Little spike under load, but hardly noticeable.

Here's some more. I was able to measure DRAM volts from pin 1 on the mem slots.

Fro the Expert board (mine anyway)using Fluke 87 DMM on orange slots:

BIOS READ Measured

2.66v 2.60v 2.612v

2.68v 2.62v 2.632v

2.69v 2.64v 2.643v

2.71v 2.67v 2.670v

2.72v 2.67v 2.686v

2.74v 2.68v 2.701v

2.77v 2.72v 2.724v

2.79v 2.73v 2.746v

2.80v 2.76v 2.771v

2.84v 2.80v 2.801v

2.87v 2.83v 2.837v

2.92v 2.87v 2.879v

a slight difference using two sticks (only rechecked a few):

2.74v 2.70v 2.711v

2.77v 2.72v 2.733v

2.79v 2.75v 2.756v

2.80v 2.76v 2.779v

The readings are from Smartguardian, but MBM 5 is almost identical in readings.

It shows a pattern anyway :)

Can you all, especially you with 3.0 ghz post benchmarking and stress results please and not only Cpu-z shots...

And one question, what is the good burn in method?

My Opteron 146 is CABGE 0536 FPMW but im pleased with results!

Thanks!

hi, im wondering if any one else knows what anyone else is getting on this stepping, CABYE 0535 XPMW, i know 2 other members have them but havnt posted, well the best i can get it is 287x10 1.62v, it was wasnt stable on prime at 290x10 1.65v
I see you are using an Expert. When you say it wasn't stable, do you remember if it failed during large or small fft's? If it is small, you may be done. But if it was large, we may be able to get a little more.

Well, I've been trying for over a week to get my Expert to play well with my G.Skills using my 175. Tried five different BIOS's and literally every combination of Driving Strength/Data Strength/MAL/Read Preamble. For the life of me, I couldn't find a combination that would let me run CAS 2.5 at 1T stably. My longest prime run was 59 minutes, always failing large FFT's. The system just felt unstable. I knew it was memory related but couldn't make the necessary adjustments.

So last night I said to hell with it and switched to 2T. All my problems were immediately solved! Running like a champ now. Obviously, this is not the ideal solution, but until I can figure out where I have been going wrong, 2T is where I be. All shots below at data/drive strength 7/1 (the only combination I had luck with).

Relaxed timings for prime run:

So my final verdict on the Expert: it's a keeper. I have been able to match my max overclocks with both my 148 and 175 on my Ultra-D. More importantly, the Ultra-D/175 combo had dangerously inaccurate voltage reporting problems (.11v over CPUZ under load). The Expert is much more accurate - the above prime shot reads 1.591v with a DMM under load and 1.579v idle. Once I get my memory sorted out at 1T, this system will be a beast.

Have you tried increasing the sqew to 50 or a 100 higher the better, this helped me ALOT for my stability definately worth a shot if your out of ideas.

My Opty gets here tommorow I odered 148 Cabye placed the order on friday and read a post on anand tech about AMD stopping all sales of the 939 line due to enthusiasts ocing.
