PC1X1 Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Likewise, great everyone is ok, things seem to be moving, but new orleans etc are still looking very grim.
red930 Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Just glad to find an internet connection. We're doing fine right now. Power is back up and water should be drinkable in a week or so. Done a lot of work the last week helping people get their offices moved to new locations. Some people are completely wiped out. There are places with just a slab and not even two bricks are stacked one on top of another. The stench is so bad you have to breathe through your mouth the entire time you're down by the water. The rest of my family and everyone I know has checked in OK so far! There are a few friends that I haven't heard from but with communications so bad it's understandable. The Red Cross has been making runs out to our area with meals but the MRE's are pretty good. Stay away from the Cheese and Vegatable Omlette. That one is positively toxic. lol No matter what you see on TV you just can't imagine what it's like until you see the utter destruction in person. To stand next to a three story casino that's on dry land well off the water is mind numbing. So many historic and cultural landmarks are gone it's hard to get your bearings when driving along the coast. As soon as I can get another connection I'll post back. Take care and thanks for the prayers. ExRoadie from the Mississippi Gulf Coast that's still here.

Guest Bulldog Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I don't have time to post here often, but we at DFI Europe are glad that both Rgone and Ex-Roadie have made it thru ok. It looks like a true hell-on-earth from what we see here on the news in Europe, but I imagine that pales in comparison to what it is really like on the ground. -Wishing strength to those affected. red930 Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Got access to another computer with dial-up. You guys have seen the images on TV for two weeks that we are just now getting a chance to look at. Let me tell you that the destruction is 10 times worse than you can see from what they show on TV. The level of stress on individuals is the biggest threat right now. After two weeks of constant heartache and pain, I'm starting to feel it myself even though I got through relatively OK. Take care guys and I'll be back as soon as we can get a regular connection to the internet. ExRoadie

red930 Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Finally got a broadband connection up at one of my clients. The internet is good! lol Looks like BellSouth is starting to get some of their DSLAMs back up so DSL will roll-out slowly. Cableone has gotten some areas up over the past few days but the power company units just cut the cable away from the poles and worried about power. It puts Digital services way down the list so I might not get internet access at home for quite a while. There's just no telling due to the relief efforts going on. The MRE's are making a difference since we don't have to wait in line for food. I got two cases of each lot A and B. The Jambalaya in case B is real good. The Meatloaf even has a sugar wafer cookie for desert. Our water is now approved for drinking but I think I'll give it a few days just in case. My Uncle (the slum lord, lol) lost all of his property in New Orleans East. He's staying at the family farm up towards Baton Rouge until he can get back down to New Orleans. They are starting to remove the debris from the area and you can get around a lot easier. Of course that's relative. We lost three major bridges and the east-west highway along the coast. A five minute trip can now take over an hour. This is not helping the stressed out folks down here. They put traffic control in the hands of the National Guard but they don't know the streets which causes more problems. As soon as they are done retrieving bodies, the local police will get back to traffic detail. They started working on the Interstate-110 spur down to the coast highway. Two lanes southbound and only one lane northbound. It can take two hours to get out of Biloxi from dawn to dusk then they close access to the public. Our curfew was relaxed to 12midnight to 6AM so Cobia and I are going to celebrate our birthdays together this weekend. All of the places I used to go aren't there anymore so we'll have to find a new place for a while. Hot Chick made it back to town and started work Thursday. They had a lot of roof damage which let water into their house. We got the major cleanup done but it will be a long while before their house is normal. Heard from a friend today. He lost everything that he didn't take with his family when they evacuated. The house is just a slab with nothing sticking up more than 3 inches. He was above the stated flood plain level so he didn't buy flood insurance. He has nothing left. NOTHING! Cobia's working in an area that has more than 1,000 homes and not one is livable without major reconstruction. Every house had at least 10 feet of water with some two story homes going completely under. Whole sections are completely gone. Incredible destruction. Hope to be back on the forum soon. Ya'll be cool! ExRoadie
