About To Lap My True

I'm about to lap my TRUE that came in today sense i dont really have anything better to do sense my video card, ram, and motherboard have yet to come in...

 

i picked up 400, 800, 1200, and 2000 grit paper. Any suggestions on how i go about this?

best thing to do is get something you know is very flat, like a piece of granite/marble or perhaps a piece of glass or a mirror and tape the sandpaper to it.

 

sand in one direction until the finish is uniform (surface is most likely to not be completely flat)

sand across perpendicular to the first way until surface is uniform

reapeat each step with a higher grit paper each time

 

that's my technique.

I just did mine as well. It'll take quite a while depending on if it's warped, convexed or concaved.

Tape the sand paper down good. It tends to come up quite easily. Make sure you use minimal water. I'd stick with 400 and 600 until you see nothing but copper, and then progress to the finer grained stuff. Make sure to apply even pressure because the TRUE will want to skip/jump a little when you have a new piece of sandpaper until the water is evenly dispursed. Make sure you have plenty of sandpaper, especially the 400 and 600. It tends to load up quickly. I took full sheets and tore them in half and then taped them down. Good Luck

I did mine yesterday... start at around 800 grit, work up 2 grades at a time (at most) circular until it's level, then perpendicular on 1200 or higher wet&dry that's been soaked in soapy warm water. You can use some WD40 or something on the first two grades, but not after - use water

re-lapped my Xigmatek HDT-S1283 a few days ago. I wanted to try the Sharpie Marker trick I saw somewhere here in the forum, don't remember exactly where. This trick works very well; my HS was not completely flat but now it is.

 

Thsi trick consists of drawing evenly spaced dots on the HS base. Then you sand only a few seconds and if all dots equally degraded, it is flat.

Ok i just got done Here are my results. I think i could of done a little better of a job but iv been working on this thing for like 3 hours! At 400 grit i could see the convex in the base! I forgot to take pictures of it but it looked like Rokkaholik's at the beginning. I finished off with 2000 grit

I dont know if it hurts your eyes because of the graininess/blurriness or because of how shinny it is

Its certainly not the shininess because I cant see that from the blurriness...
