Maka, I could say the same thing. Don't infringe on my right to breath air not contaminated with your smoke. Go somewhere private to smoke and get lung cancer. I don't want to have a higher risk of lung cancer just because you enjoy smoking in public areas. Find somewhere where it doesn't infringe on someone else's right to breath. And one thing, if's funny how you say it's a God-given right. I guess I missed that part in the Bible where God says: You Shall Inhale and Exhale Smoke Until The Coming Day. Can someone tell me in which book did JesusChrist light up and inhale/exhale with his apostles. :P

I strongly disagree with banning smoking in all public places...It should be 100% up to the business owner whether they want people smoking inside the establishment or not. If you go to a restaurant and people are smoking there, go somewhere else to spend your money. Stop infringing our God-given right to inhale/puff on anything we want just because YOU don't like it. Most people that smoke are nice enough, like Jax points out below, to put it out if it does bother someone.

:withstupid: I could not agree more. I smoke and was once asked by a waitress in a restraunt to please put it out so I did, I threw it on the carpet and mashed it out with my foot into the carpet...

I agree with Makaveli, if the store/restaurant/shop owner allows smoking on his property then it should be allowed.

I will however state that it should be clearly advised of such things, any place that allows smoking (i.e you have the possibility of inhaling smoke as you enter the building) should be clearly designated.

If I start a bar and want to allow smoking I should be allowed to, provided that I place a sign that is clearly visible (with braille access) on the front of my "shop".

That is a perfect compromise between making other people inhale 2nd hand smoke and making smokers go outside.

If a non-smoker rolls up into a smoking allowed bar and complains then he can GTFO!

If a smoker goes into a non-smoking bar and lights up then he can GTFO!

I find these smoking bans foolish.

In my opinion the owner of the bar has the right to stipulate what "legal" things the occupants of his bar encounter.

(I realize the following doesn't harm you so don't tell me it doesn't compare)

In the United States of America you have to be 21 to enter a bar, in the United States of America you have to be 18 to view pornography.

If a bar owner wanted to display pornography in his bar should he be able to?

In my opinion thats how it should be, if you're a non-smoker and are strolling down the street and you pass a pub/bar/restaurant that says "smoking" then just walk on by and vice-versa for smokers....

Earlier I had said it should be banned for my reasons, but yea this is a good idea.

In Houston it used to be up to the bar owners, just recently the city passed a law no smoking in any public places period and the owners have no say so anymore. There were a lot of bar owners on the local news complaining but it done no good. They took the right to smoke just like they have taken and taking other rights away from the citizens....

Eh. I know that opinion is not popular among smokers, but I don't apologize for the opinion nor do I apologize for giving it when the thread/poll specifically asks. Like I said, I think smokers should be given the freedom to do as they wish so long as it doesn't limit the freedoms of others. What I have a problem with is involuntarily inhaling someone else's smoke. Some people, as you say, are certainly nice enough to put it out if asked. Others are simply pissy about it (like RR's example). Others still won't do it at all, and may even see it as an opportunity to maximize their impact on you out of spite. It's a lottery as to which you'll get in a particular instance, and I'd rather just not have to deal with it. I just don't see it as a "God given right" like others clearly do. Besides, many of our rights have limitations. I don't see why it's always expected to be all or none in cases like this.

i HATE smokers its so nasty to smoke eveything you own is covered in tar and everything smells. smoking is just nasty and when people talk to you after smoking is even more nasty there breath just stinks. i think smoking should be banned forever its a big health haz. i hate the people that smoke just cause they think they are cool or something, maybe the human race will get smart enough one day and stop all this health haz crap. u have to be pretty dumb to want to blacken your own lungs and put your self and other at risk for cancer and other smoking related illness.

I have to agree with both of these statements. I have never smoked and don't ever want to start. I think it should be banned in all public places. Its not fair that a non-smoker has eather the choice of going some ware else or have to sit there and smell someones else's smoke and feel sick.

There are no benefits to smoking and I don't really understand why people smoke when theres so many health risks associated with it.

The banning of smoking in public buildings has a lot to do with the staff as well.

Staff who work in other businesses aren't expected to put up with a smokey environment, so why should bars and clubs be any different?
