WhiteBear Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Hello, I would like to know I OC my Q6600 on a 680i nvidia board. Well after putting the CPU mutiplier to 8x (max) then adjusting the FSB I was only able to reach approx 2.6 (almost) I was told if I give more voltage I could go higher? Has anyone done this and how far can I go without causing damage ? What is the max voltage I should go on the CPU (I currently forgot what it's at now the setting) ? kingdingeling Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 The maximum CPU multiplier for the Q6600 is 9x, dunno why you said 8x was the max. Also, exactly which board are you using, but more importantly, which CPU cooler are you using? The maximum voltage / overclock really depends on your CPU cooler
WhiteBear Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I am using stock cooling. Well I could only change it to 8x on my CPU mutiplier, I will check again but as far as I can remember it was 8x.
kingdingeling Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Then something's wrong, cause the Q6600 has a multi of 9x
Bosco Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Make sure you don't need a BIOS flash as well.
Guticb Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 (edited) I ended up hitting a limit too. Mine was 380X9 (3420). I'm leaving it there. Â The reason mine bottlenecked was the motherboard. My FSB was ~1540, yet the mobo was rated for 1333. =P Edited December 27, 2007 by Guticb
road-runner Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I cant seems to get mine over 475 bus speed....
hardnrg Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 the 680i has FSB holes... e.g if 1700-1760 FSB is unstable, try 1780 or 1800 and it will be stable, then it will be unstable again, then 1900 will be stable... Â so if you hit instability, don't make it stop you from trying higher FSB

IVIYTH0S Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 atleast higher fsbs are attainable, i hate my 975 chipset i will be SOOOO happy to get my 680i in the next couple days if i over up the ram at all with the processor the system is unstable
WhiteBear Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 So you guys think I need to flash my BIOS because I cap at 2.6 ? If I push it higher with the BIOS I use now my computer just won't boot so I have to put it down (which is what it's at now)
