in Windows, I generally use the "winblows search" feature - it works good enough. I try to stay semi-organized, so I don't really need it that much.

 

same thing in linux, but I'm still a n00b, so I have to rely on "whereis" or "find / -name qwerty"

Either way, I'm kind of leery about a full-text indexing search of my hard drive. The warning buzzers in my tinfoil hat start going off when that topic comes up... :ph34r:

Google Desktop > Windows search in a heartbeat. Literally. The Google Desktop finds your files instantly, while it may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes to find something with Windows search.

rarely do i not know the whereabouts of a file (or files)... so waiting for the windows search to do its thing doesn't bother me... with RAID-0 it's not like it's slow anyway...
