Bboy Satch Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 i heard anything more than 100ft can lead to screwed up packets and stuff like that
BloodySunday Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Keep it under 300ft(100M). Since you have DSL can't you just move the modem into your room and the wireless in there to and give them your reciever as long as your at a high point in your house you should be fine. asus Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 i heard anything more than 100ft can lead to screwed up packets and stuff like that no thats 100meaters .. not feet.. 300 feet is the MAX for cat 5.. i am running over 250 feet to a compuer now.. fine.. and if it was degridated 2 much.. you could alwies buy a repeater or a switch to boost the signal.. Â and if your dl slow.. its because the server thats hosting the file has a slow connection or is flooded with people
SeV.o3 TwiZZler Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 ill try that but if i am wired can every one else be wireless so it would be 1 wired and 3 wirless?
Byron Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 that is possible if you are using a router then a wireless access point. Or if your wireless router has a wired cat5 spot on the back.
Overclockersdream Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 or you can upgrade to wireless g access... i do at toast.net 1.9 mps avg., the wireless g stuff is great. i recommend the one with the speed booster

GTSticky Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Cat5e or Cat6 are about the same price as Cat5. Might as well at least go for the "e".
Ph33rh4x Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 cat6 is the best IMO. Im pretty sure you can go about 500ft with that stuff before data corruption but dont quote me on that, could be more could be less.

Stachman31 Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I am using cat 5e to go from the house to my garage, about 175 feet with no problems. Just got some cat 6, will wait until it gets warmer to switch out the old stuff with the new.
