bp9801 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Quick glance on ASUS' product page for your motherboard doesn't list any IDE connectors, so yeah, doesn't look like that disc drive will work for you.
SpikeSoprano Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Why not just transfer your os to a usb drive and load it from that,if you do need a optical drive just get a lite-on or lg sata drive for 15 to 20 bucks.
wingspar Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I went with an ASUS DVD burner for $26. As long as it does what I need it to do, that
Black64 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 IMHO all optical drives are outdated, I don't even have one in my main rig.
phil69 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I have the same ASUS but an earlier ver. Model DRW-24B1STand it works great. Three years and no problems.

bigball1 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I removed my optical drive from my main system. I just made a USB drive bootable and l load the OS that way. Like 1/4 time faster then using a DVD. Like why go back?
wevsspot Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I still use an optical drive for reading and backing up my old dvds and new blurays................................
ohldboy Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Optical Drives cost $15-20, install software, play CDs and DVDs. I can make copies or back ups. Media is cheap if fragile. Try finding a cheap CD/DVD player of descent quality. Yes usually I have mp3 or cloud recordings, but CDs sound better, and leaving one in an Optical Drive for the proper moment is convenient. Maybe I am old fashioned. Not everything goes to the BluRay player and TV. Thumb drives are harder to sort and label.
