Mechanical Keyboards

Hi all,

 

I am in the market for a nice mechanical kb, and i dont know which to get.

I do alot of typing, and fps games. I am interested in the steelseries 7g or maybe one of the DAS keyboards

I am not interested in the Blackwidow, due to the 6kr and blue lights.

I dont care for macros, as i have the Naga mouse, and i would prefer red leds, but it isnt a big deal, as i will mod it otherwise.

The 7g is $50 more than the das, but if it is better, i am fine to pay it if it is heaps different.

I dont mind if it clicks or not, but i like the sound of the tactile response (no pun intended)

 

So, to summarise, 7g or the DAS (ultimate/silent/pro)

Here is a review of the above two keyboards. Stay away from Razer , i had the black widow ultimate edition and some of the keys stopped working in less than four hours.

I LOVE my Razer Tarantula (I don't think it's a mechanical keyboard though), good luck on your search.

Here is a review of the above two keyboards. Stay away from Razer , i had the black widow ultimate edition and some of the keys stopped working in less than four hours.

 

I've been using a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate for nearly two months now without issue. Only thing that ever gave me problems was one of the firmwares Razer put out would make the Escape key not work if I left the PC on for more than a few days at a time. Latest firmware, however, fixes that issue. Other than that, no problems at all with it.

Thermaltake has a mechanical keyboard as well, you should go and check it out! It's way cheaper than the BlackWidow and probably better, don't buy Razer's because you will be paying for their name as well, which is probably half of the price of the actual product, their stuff is just completely overpriced!

I have to say I agree, I mean my Tarantula hasn't given me any trouble but I certainly wouldn't drop $80 on a keyboard again. Lachesis, same sentence but mouse

7g - It uses black switches. These mechanical switches are generally hard to type with as each press requires more force when compared to other mechanical switches. But they are good for gaming.

DAS:

Ultimate- Blue switches, without the key printing. Blue switches soft to press, so very good for typing, but they are the loudest of all mechanical switches. If you don't want to disturb your neighbours/family, you might not want to get these switches. Also if your not sure where your keyboard keys are, you may not want to get these.

Professional - Blue switches as well, but with key printing. Benefits/disadvantages are basically the same as ultimate.

Silent - Uses brown switches. These switch are a middle ground, good for both typing and gaming. <---I recommend this one, as most people would like these switches.

 

Note: All mechanical keyboards will make more noise when compared to other non-mechanical keyboards. However, it is just that blue switches make "more" noise since it also generates a "click" sound.

hmm, i really like the palmrest of the 7g, as i hate those tiny ones that move around alot.

What is the palmrest like on the DAS's?

 

BTW, i am not interested in the blackwidow

I have been looking at the Meka G1 and have to say I really enjoy using it. I am an old school geek and go back to even before the days of the XT Keyboards. The G1 has that solid feel and the keys are a bit harder to press but for a hammer hand like me that is a good thing.

Yeah I have my Tarantula, 4th year now, I love it! But I somtimes ask myself how I had the balls to drop ~$100 (including taxes) on a keyboard XD. Never again.
