BluePanda Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 That's pretty awesome. It is rather impressive. Look forward to seeing more progress as swelling goes down! Major thumbs up!
IVIYTH0S Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 AMAZING!! My hat's off to the whole staff that worked on him and of course your brother himself for hanging in there!
Speedway Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Yea, I am actually still amazed at the work they did, I could never have imagined it would look as good as it does, and that is with the swelling still there! Can't wait to see what it looks like after the swelling goes down completely! I am flying out tomorrow morning to go see him, will be out in Boston till Friday, I'm so excited! I will post some more pics sometime this week, as everyday that passes, the swelling is subsiding more and more! Again thanks for all the kind words and thoughts throughout this thread. It is really appreciated!

Speedway Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Wow, this trip has been nothing but amazing! I have gotten to meet quite a few of the doctors on the surgical team including Dr. Pomahac who lead the procedure. I urged my brother to join OCC awhile back and he did, but never was active. He is as big of a PC nerd as any of the rest of us and would be a great member! He is currently working on a post for this thread that has ALOT more info, articles, and videos than I have posted Give him a warm OCC welcome, as I will also make him post on the Noob section as well
Fifth Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) This is SpeedwayNative's little brother who received the Nations 2nd full face transplant. I'm just amazed at how far medical science has advanced since my original accident almost 10 years ago. It has been one hell of a journey. I'll post links of the media coverage, you can also google "Mitch Hunter Face transplant" and see all the recent coverage and past coverage while I was being evaluated as a candidate for such a new procedure. If you have any questions, I am an open book and will try to get every single one answered! I am also thinking about doing a live skype Q&A in the near future with a live cam stream. Keep in mind I am still very swollen in these videos, so I don't look what I will look like once all of the healing is complete. Once the swelling goes down and the tissue conforms to my bone structure I will look more and more like I should at the age of 30 years old if the accident never happened. All proceeds will help fund the living/recovery cost while in Boston and will also help cover what my insurance doesn't. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Even donations of knowing I have your support to even saying "hope you have a speedy recvovery". Knowing I have the support of complete strangers and fellow computer nerds ( I am one too) is worth more than any dollar amount. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=UUH3QE2AN7GXG Thanks all for taking the time to read this. Fifth Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I have to correct a mistake my brother made as well. It was roughly 10,000 volts of electricity and 7 amps. Electrical specialists say .5 amps can kill a man and it only takes 500-1200 volts to kill a man in the electric chair. I was on the line close to 5 minutes. The electricity had entered my left leg and the majority of it exited my face. When I was finally pulled off the line they said the bones in my face were glowing red! Ironically I flat lined twice on the way to the hospital and they used the shock paddles to shock me back to life lol. I was in a drug induced coma for almost a month and was in the hospital for another month and a half - 2 1/2 months all together. I was in and out of the hospital for 3-4 years following the accident for reconstructive surgeries. If I had not received this transplant I still had about another 2-3 years left of reconstruction surgery on my face and right hand. I will have a few minor nip/tuck type surgeries in the future, but nothing major. I'll keep this thread updated with newer pics as the swelling goes down. I mean thank goodness you did, but that's just one of the most extreme things I've ever heard
