Ill check bios again but when it all began it was same as already on board. Thinking new power supply now. Didnt look yet but are nexus on the recommended list?

Never heard of Nexus....im out in the Stats and that must be a European brand. Do some research it might be a reputable company out your way ;)

I'm surprised psu wasn't mentioned earlier as that was my first thought. I would most deff try a new psu from a local store that you can return later just to see.

  • 4 weeks later...

yea thanks Wormy - im gonna do that today

Been a while since i updated you guys - Holidays and work taking up my time.

Purchased a new PSU (Cooler master 850W) Installed and bang same BSOD's !!!!

Last week i decided to chase down the MOBO manufacturer AsRock - Logged a ticket and they didnt reply!! instead im directed by a Auto mail to seek advice from the FAQ's or the many forums they posess - I chose Tweak Town Forums and aired my grievances there. My Post on TweakTown

Met a like for like situation with another user with Same MOBO and same BSOD's - he supplied a link with the BETA BIOS flash (AsRock never bothered with a fully supported update for the MOBO) and instead decided to design a new card called the 890GX Extreme4 R2.!! My MOBO allegedly has heat issues

After Flashing to the BETA BIOS system has become a little more stable (still crashes after about 2 hours with any games!) Wont allow more than 2 sticks of RAM and rejects my PCI soundcard that id spent €400 on 2 years back (Even latest Drivers)

System seems to work stable enough when not gaming! but its a gaming machine!! Arrrrggghhh

So its a new MOBO now - shall i go for the AsRock updated version 890GX Extreme 4 R2. (which has had 3 Bios updates since release) My MOBO has had 0!

Or should i stay clear and move to something else??

absolutely any comments would be appreciated

move companies... go with gigabyte,or asus or msi... im personally a gigabyte guy and ive had gigabyte mobos since i was about 13yo.. im 29 now so thats a long time and ive had plenty of them.. ive heard good things about Asus and MSI as well... having said that.. my old man has a Asrock without any problems, but i still would go with the other ones

sorry to hear ur problems.. and ive had same problems with 2 gfx cards... i even had the mobo RMA'd... but it turned out to be 2 dodgy 480gtx cards... swapped it for a 580 on release day and i never had a problem since..

Twinings, I second Matty's recommendation. I'd move on to another brand at this point. I've personally had good luck with some Intel based ASRock boards, so I wouldn't totally write them off in the future. But in your situation I think you need to jump ship. Any of the brands that Matty recommended would make a suitable replacement.

Yea thinking same, Cant believe you had bad luck with two Gfx cards - i RMA's mine thinking it was the issue - moved away from that thought when i got a brand new same card and it didnt make any difference.

Youve a pretty similar set-up(Minus the crosfire) what MOBO do you run?

Cheers

Yea makes sense, would feel a right idiot if i got the R2. and same thing happens - especialy with their customer care being non existant!!

It might be worth a shot sending them more emails / tickets. Some companies just take a bit of...persuading...before they'll help with anything.

as far as companies go, I would recommend ASUS over MSI (no opinion on gigabyte). I had an MSI board go bad on me and fried my cpu, they sent me a replacement after about a month in RMA and that one went bad in about a week. It was a 7xx series, so maybe the 8xx and 9xx series boards are better, but I'm sticking with ASUS from now on.
