Possible Portal Sequel

I could see them doing a reboot of CS, since it's been many years since CS:S. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's some new IP. They may want the third game to be single player though as to not cannibalize TF2 while they're still pushing updates on that, but who knows. I definitely agree that a new TF or L4D is out of the question though.

In 2009, Valve stated themselves that they weren't even sure what they would do with CS2 (though no doubt that it will come), as to whether it will be CS > CS:S and DoD > DoD:S or TF > TF2.

Update: (taken from HERE )

  • Portal gets surprise update March 1st
  • People see new mystery achievement
  • People play and see the radio in the beginning room now has a green light
  • Carry it around and notice it makes strange broadcast interference noises in certain places
  • Locate and place all 26 of these mystery radios for achievement
  • Smart people yank .wav files out of game content folders and run them through SSTV programs LINK
  • Produces 22 cryptic image files in a numbered sequence, 4 morse code
  • Somebody runs the number string through an md5 hash translator and gets a landline number
  • Internet traces it to Kirkland, WA (near Valve HQ)
  • People find out its not a phone/fax line but a data line hosting a BBS and telnet it
  • Use a clue from one of the files to figure out the BBS user/password login info [backup/backup]
  • End up with a bunch of weird ASCII artwork: Link 1 Link 2
  • New messages from the BBS! It looks like...Chell with the portal gun? LINK

and btw this is what it says: "EPISODE3 Q4 2010" according to someone that apparently had lots of time on his hands.

This news has literally set my hair on end =| Now THIS is how you promote!

Valve are defininitely aliens though. No doubt about this!

And that second ending O_O I'm actually shocked senseless! I CAN'T WAIT!

Q4 2010 shall be a fun period :3

I don't get it

Are we supposed to be excited because that's GlaDOS speaking? Didn't we already know she was "still alive"?

That's a completely different robot you're hearing, or voice I should say. Earlier on in the game when you think you've escaped death, you're told to lie on the ground (Assuming the Party Escort Submission Position) and a party associate will come collect you to get your cake, Though you pass that off as bull because you know no-one is coming. So now they chuck in this little tidbit at the end and EVERYTHING is thrown into a completely different perspective all over again!

In the original ending you just literally lay there, but this bridges the gap nicely between Portal 1 and what I suppose will be Portal 2.

Well first off, you don't really know it's a different robot. GlaDOS could have been damaged in the explosion. But that aside, even if this is a different robot/being, I don't see the big deal. I fully recall the (original) ending of Portal, I guess I just don't see why people are all "OMFG" over this, and definitely disagree that this "bridges the gap".

I don't think this is a different robot, pretty sure it's a piece of glados, glados was originally just one robot and then had more added on later, so this is just one of those pieces/personalities of glados.

The update lists the addition as "Added valuable asset retrieval". This can only suggest that you are the valuable asset, being retrieved by this robot. Take this however you want it, but I think that the "test" of the first game was to "kill" GLaDOS, and that you were the first to succeed. Even if this is not true, the gap is definitely bridged as you have been taken somewhere, and it must be explained where (instead of the first Portal ending, where it could be assumed that you die laying on the ground, or that you are finally free).
