I'm Stupid

Well in messing around with some ftp accounts on my site I managed to wipe out my entire site. I had set up the location for the ftp as my public_html folder and when I went to delete it I said to delete the contents of the folder instead of just the account. It all went bye-bye. Thankfully most of the content is in a database but I have to re-upload all the visual stuff.

So has anyone else ever done anything that boneheaded?

I got smashed one night and decided it would be a good time to put a new screen in my ipod and a new hard drive in my computer. Surprisingly the ipod screen went off without a hitch, but the hard drive install wasn't so lucky. The actual install went fine but right when I was about to close the case I saw a male and female fan connector sitting next to each other. I figured I accidentally disconnected it while installing. Turns out they were both hot and I ended up killing everything running off that rail of my psu. Live and learn I guess.

I'm usually one to follow my gut instinct, but when I first started out with PC, I trusted others because I knew squat. My first PC was a Gateway 950 Select. It had Windows ME on it and one day, my icons on the desktop disappeared. Their shape was there, but it was like looking through holes in a piece of paper and I could see what looked like my Documents folder through the icons cutouts. I couldn't click on them either.

I called Gateway Tech support and got some cocky turd tech and he had it alllllll figured out. He had me put in my recovery disk 2 and was going to have me import the icons from the disk or something. A question popped up that asked Automatic or Manual and without thinking he blurted out AUTOMATIC! So... the Formatting thing came up....

I knew I should have trusted my hesitation... My jaw dropped because I knew that word wasn't good and I jumped on him right away and then he tried backpeddling saying he MEANT Manual. I lost all my programs, pictures and the last 3 weeks of ripping my entire CD collection into the computer which was appx 7000-10,000 mp3's. That idiot couldn't weasel himself off the phone fast enough. He transferred me to some other tech to see if I could get something back, but when I booted the PC, I got the IO.SYS error thing. THAT tech explained to me what happened and apologized left and right about the first guy who would be dealt with he said. I then had a supervisor on the phone or something and they took down my info and explaination of what happened.

About 3 weeks later, my hard drive was chattering like crazy and I called tech support again. THAT tech asked me the initial questions and then said something about me calling in a few weeks earlier, which must have been on his screen. I told him about the loud drive and put the phone down next to the PC tower. He agreed without hesitation and said a new drive was on the way. When it arrived, it wasn't that big 40gb I thought, but instead a 60GB, which was big at that time.

That stupid situation was what made me really start looking into info on PC's and hardware, so I didn't have to ever rely on some cocky knucklehead again

back in the days when i was doing a little web design i did something simmilar myself

Actually i just got sick of coding after a while, and decided to just use Piczo.com as a basis for creating any website i might need in the future, its great! much better then myspace and bebo and all that other doodaaah, only thing is not many people are botherd to use it (but thats in comparison to myspace) because you pretty much start with a blank page, but it gives you all the tools you need to create your own site, i made a Great one but i think its innapropriate to show

(lol its a personal one which i made while i was with my 1st girlfriend.. mhmm.. i havnt been on it for almost 2 years now lol) That being said im still impressed with the features i was given, and the best part is the more active you are the more space they give you - atleast thats the last time i checked. Im thinking to make another one when i have the time :thumbs-up:

I remember a long time ago my school had us using computers for out little class projects and save them on floppy disks, I was like 10. Anyways, I was just killin time on the internet because I thought the project was stupid. Needless to say I fell hopelessly behind.

In desperation I took my floppy disk and scratched the lived hell out of the inside then I made a huge stink about my project being gone. I said someone must have ruined my disk and I never had to do the project.

I know i wasn't anywhere close to what you did but I thought it was a decent story.
