Guest ajmatson Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Here is my 3.6 Ghz on air.CPU-Z Validation Nicely done. What was your voltage? Try kicking up the reference clock a bit for 4.0GHz now
bbbrad Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 This may be a stupid question. I have built a new setup and have never overclocked. (setup is in sig) But I have downloaded AMD Overdrive and was playing around with bumping the multiplier. I got it to pass prime95 clocked at 3.7. I clicked apply after this and then rebooted, but after retart it returns to stock 3.2. Anyone tell me what Im doing wrong. Is AMD Overdrive temporary until you make the change in the actual BIOS? Guest ajmatson Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 You have to go into preferences and set it to reapply the overclock on reboot.
slick2500 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) Now I got it to 3.8 Ghz http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=604662 CPUZ and OCCT Screeny. I want to see how far I can get on a pure Multiplyer overclock before I start messing with anything else. bbbrad Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 You have to go into preferences and set it to reapply the overclock on reboot. I have the box checked that says, apply last settings when system boots. I increased mult to x18 for 3.6 clock clicked apply. then ok. rebooted and its back to 3.2? slick2500 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Don't use AMD overdrive for overclocking. IDK my image viewer has always had that yellowish color to it even when I was running Vista.

It only requires a reboot for some things like changing the CAS latency it think. Don't use AMD overdrive for overclocking. Why do you say that AOD is a very useful tool for overclocking. Im trying to get the overclock to stay permanently without having to change it after every restart. Guest ajmatson Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Well after playing with my new water cooling loop I managed to get my X4 955 over 4.0GHz running two loops of Super PI 1M successfully. For some reason the CPUZ window jumped when I resized it however the temps were 46C
