Cleaning Solution?

Recommended Posts

Im getting Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM for my CPU.

I was just wondering, should I get some Arctic Silver ACN-60ML (2-PC-SET) Thermal material Remover & Surface Purifier - OEM for $5.99 to use on my old CPU and to "purify" this CPU?

Is it worth it?

I think that Arctic Silver cleaning stuff is silly. Proof positive that people will buy anything if you put the right brand name on it. Oh, and mark it up about 500%.

A 79 cent bottle of isopropyl alcohol does the job just fine, will last four lifetimes and can be had from any drugstore or supermarket.

But if anyone needs them, I'm selling Arctic Silver Thermal Material Remover Paper Towels. Just $12.99 each plus shipping & handling.

Well, we have tonnnssss of the Arctic Silver stuff at work. Any time I've used alcohol, theres always a residue left behind from the old TIM, but the AS stuff gets EVERYTHING. It looks like a brand new chip after using the AS, absolutely zero trace of the old TIM. I know a super thin film of old TIM isnt really relevant, in most cases, but neither is lapping for 90% of people....

I use isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs.

Cleans off arctic silver 5 without any residue.

If you have residue it means you need to use more of that .25 bottle of isopropyl alcohol or the $6 lemony fresh stuff.

Your choice.

don't use toilet paper.

it leaves a mess.

QFT and Sigged LOL!

if you use rubbing alcohol and it leaves residue, you may want to apply it with something other than what you are using... I use q-tips, just because they're handy and you can get the TIM out of pretty much anywhere on the IHS.

So using rubbing alcohol for you all cleans the proc so well that it looks like new? I've used q-tips and alcohol before, I remember the results were an almost new-looking but tinted-the-color-of-TIM IHS. Maybe I did it wrong. But the AS cleaning solution for me is free and takes about a minute to get a new looking IHS, so I'll stick to that :D
