Onion Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Basically, I made a bet with my dad that if my overall GPA at school is over 3.5, he buys me a car. I know that if I do my work for the rest of the school year I can easily obtain a 3.5 unweighted. What car should I ask for? I'm looking for a something powerful, and a manual transmission. flareback Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 since you didn't specify a budget, i'd go for a murciélago

Verran Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 LOL.... Realistically... get... Umm idk if it was me I'd ask for a brand new VW GTI but that's just me. And that's just it... there is no one definition of "realistic". $25k car at 16? Lol. I got a rusted out old Honda Prelude for about $4k when I was 16, and I was way better off than a lot of people I knew. Everyone has their own version of "realistic". flareback Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I'd recommend a good used car. cheaper and not as big of a loss when you wrap it around a telephone pole when you're driving like an idiot. (and I'm sure you'll drive like an idiot. Everyone says they can drive good yet you say everyone else is a bad driver. maybe we're all bad drivers)
DLS2008 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Go pick out the least rusty car at the junkyard. I have no idea. It depends on how much money your dad has. My parents were tight on cash so I got a $600 1992 Chrysler New Yorker when I turned 16 (2 years ago). Ask for something nicer, but not a lot, because you WILL get in an accident. I don't care how careful you are, it's bound to happen. I've seen too many of my friends total their brand new cars already, don't do that. ClayMeow Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I got a new car for high school graduation. He never officially put a limit on the cost, but I figured he wouldn't let me go over $30k (otherwise I would have asked for a Viper ). Go pick out the least rusty car at the junkyard. I've never been behind the wheel in an accident and I've been driving for 12 years. Now, my car DID get over $5k in damage one time, but that was when a car slammed into it when it was parked on my street.
LoArmistead Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 It's cool that your dad is that awesome What kind of budget do you have? Are you looking Euro/America/Asian? V6 fast or V8 fast? Buy your own. This is the new America. Why buy it when it can be given to you instead?

Man I tell you...if you drive anything like you build PCs or post in the forums I'd be very afraid for the people who live near you... Good luck with the grades though...
