paulktreg Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Overclocking the CPU will have little effect on the FPS. You need to overclock the GPU. See: OCC Review MSI R4850. Hope this helps. Regards Paul
IVIYTH0S Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 it must have some part to play, I remember I could play the game ok and then I overclocked CPU and ram and I could max it out.
Comp Dude2 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 (edited) You've a quicker gfx card though. And yea, push the gpu a bit btw.....whats with the crazy resolution? Edited October 15, 2008 by Comp Dude2
ARandomOWL Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 OCing ur CPU a bit more will probs give it a few FPS. btw.....whats with the crazy resolution? Think it must be WS.
skating101 Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 OCing ur CPU a bit more will probs give it a few FPS. Think it must be WS. Yes the monitor is WS 24" I have overclocked the GPU and Mem and no effect on either benchmark. GPU Overclocked from 625MHz to 680MHz Memory Overclocked from 993MHz to 1050MHz Any more tips? I expected this setup to get around 30 FPS average at this resolution and settings
Turophiliac Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 (edited) thats still an awkward res for a 24" monitor... but w/e 625 to 680 is only a 55MHz overclock, you probably won't see a whole lot of improvement on that end. i overclocked my 8800gt from 650(superclocked version) to ~730 and it really didn't play a whole lot better in crysis, maybe up 2-4 fps. on 3DMark06 however it boosted me up over 1000 pts... Also, what are the FSB ratios in each of those 3 setups you listed in your first post, i know that when i benched my system, it ran better at stock with a 1:1 FSB ratio than overclocked with some funky ratio my board gave it, think 13:16. Yeah and you're barely overclocking your cpu, a few MHz won't do much
Waco Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Yeah and you're barely overclocking your cpu, a few MHz won't do much 700 MHz should be a noticeable difference if he was CPU bound.

Ill try and overclock the GPU more (to around GPU:700Mhz Mem: 1100MHz) using Catalyst after work this evening and ill post the results. The FSB ratio is at 2:3 i believe ill have to check that and get back to you. Thanks for the tips
Turophiliac Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 700 MHz should be a noticeable difference if he was CPU bound. i think he's only OCing ~320MHz, the first setup he listed was underclocked. but i do believe that it should at least go up a little from 2.13 to 2.85GHz
skating101 Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 700 MHz should be a noticeable difference if he was CPU bound. thats what i was thinking lol so i guess that i am GPU bound however im not getting the same the same average framerate at a similar resolution as in this test: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon...on,2007-13.html The equivalent resolution is 1680 x 1050 and without AA they get 27FPS however without AA I only get 24FPS average any ideas? Does their faster CPU count for much?
