stocknotclocked Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 (edited) Hi I have a barton core 2800+ but does 512 extra l2 cache really make that much difference. wouldnt have a few extra ghz be better for gaming or is that cache really worth having I am asking cause I am selling this system and building another probably and dont know whether to go barton again or not. Agallion Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 its makes all the difference..thats why the 2500 beats teh 2400 when the 2400 is clocked faster..(could be wrong but i promise the cache is very helpfull)
Dignan Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 It is true that the cache does make a big difference in these things, the 512 does help in rendering and benches.
Special_K Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 definetly go barton again. if you go any other core and oc you'll have more heat problems than you would with a barton
Iggy Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 I think the cache does make a difference-an XP 1700+ oc'ed to 2.7 runs equivalent to a XP 2500+ oc'ed to 2.4 (I think).
DevilMB3017 Posted December 14, 2003 Posted December 14, 2003 Its not only the cache thats different, but in my opinion, that cache makes a huge difference. When I convert 3D images, rip MP3s, run Folding@home - its all faster.

bigred Posted December 14, 2003 Posted December 14, 2003 stop calling it 333/266/400 on amd chips!!!! it's NOT. the real fsb is 1/2 of what amd claims, and 1/4 what intel claims
stocknotclocked Posted December 14, 2003 Posted December 14, 2003 (edited) You tell em RED PS thnx for keeping them honest I appreciate all those that posted but I am still a little sceptical of the how much improvement the cache actually makes as a 2600+ and 2700+ doesnt have the cache and is rated faster than 2500+ as other reviews and benchmarks seem to say it is only a very marginal difference in performance and thats not with 3d just with business applications. (its healthy to question? )edit if the barton does stay cooler and overclock better that is another thing now that makes it a real asset to have !!!!!!
